Guest guest
Dear Bhattacharjya and other Frirnds and Members , Nakshatras are in Antrikchha ( very deep in the sky) and spread all over the sky in all directions.Latitude of many Yoga Tara's are even more than 30 degree on either side of Ecliptic plane. Where as SIGNS are a concept and perceived on Zodiacal circle, which lies on the path of earth round the Sun.All planets move about 9 deg north and 9 deg south of the ecliptic.Exaltation etc depend on Zodiac signs and not directly linked with Nakshatra's. The Sun is exalted in the Ashwini nakshatra, the presiding deities of which are the Ashwini Kumaras, who are the love children of the Sun. The mythological story behind this is that the Sun was love-sick and he took the form of a horse to meet his estranged wife, who took the form of a mare to escape the Sun and thus the Ashwini Kumaras were born. Guest guest
Dear Shri Goel, Nmaste, Howmuchever far from the earth, the nakshatras are real. The nakshatras are not evenly placed in the ecliptic. When it is said that the distance between any two of them is 13.2 degrees it gives only an average figure. Rashi means a group. It is a group of Nakshatras. The nakshatras were divided into four quarters and then the rashis were formed of nine of these quarters and the each of these rashi occupy 30 degrees of the ecliptic. The shapes of the nakshatras within the rashis were observed and the rashis were named according to their visual appearance. It is believed that the concept of " Rashi " came to use around 300O BCE as it was given in the Bhagawat purana, even though the Mahabharata had mentioned it only once and the Brahma rashi mentioned there had Abhijit nakshatra in that. Mahabharata mentions that Abhijit moved away in the past ( to become the pole star) and that is why it was subsequently left out. Rigveda has verses like " the Sun has risen to meet Vrishava (Taurus) " etc. Asyou can see the stars are fundamental units in astrology and the rashis are nothing but secondary units. The importance of a rashi is due to the nakshatras it contains and we should not lose sight of the nakshatras when we talk of the rashis.
