There is an old saying in telugu " Pandituni kopam taataku chapudlu, Pamaruni

kopam nivuru gappina nippu " means, a scholar's anger is like sound of dry palm

leaves, whereas that of a moorkha is like closed burning coal

 

I appreciate your emotion towards " VIT " (WIT in english!!!) ie. veda or truth,

and it is one of many symptoms of " jnani "

 

I too felt the same feeling during my initial days of learning jyotish from my

father, like how in olden days (without help of watches) scholars used to record

time?

 

In this regard, I have my own findings, which I would like to share one small

but beautiful practice of olden days with this august group

 

In Brihatjataka in Chapter 1 sloka 5, Acharya Varahamihira defines Kumbha or

Aquarius with a beautiful word called " Ghati " which means " A small water vessel

used to measure a unit of time of a day, a contrivance or clepsydra (water

clock) to ascertain ghatika or time of the day " .

This instrument made of particular alloy called Panchalohams (five metals in

specific ratio) with specific aperture at the bottom and is placed on above of

Shiva Lingam in temples while abhishekam. Different sized vessels measure

different units of Time, and 12 Jyotirlingas at different places of India record

their respective Local mean times and Priest being well versed in Shadangas will

be able to observe or record time with the help of this Ghati yantra and also

with the shadow of Dwajasthambha in Temple.

 

Interestingly, katapaya numerical equivaltent to Ghati = 41, 4+1=5, 41/12=5,

14/12=2; Since Time manifests in three forms viz., past, present and future, 1,5

and 9 represent Time parameters, where 1 represents present, 5 represents

distant future and 9 represents distant past, while 12 represents immeidate

past, 2 represents immediate future. Hence Ghati represents both immediate

future(2) and distant future. As Kala is unseen and slow so it is represented by

Aquarius ruled by black and slow planet Sani in his Moola-Trikona sign

Since it is a common practice with learned brahmins in Agraharams to have a 12

inch Sanku or Gnomon erected in their houses, generally birth times are recorded

for those born in high castes like Brahmins and Kshtriyas and even Guptas or

Vaisyas as there is more possibility of descending of soul (transmigration of

soul as stated in Bhagawat Geeta) with high samskara (karma samskar preceeds

janma samskar though) in the form of good Raja/Jnana yogas in higher castes (one

can refer Raja Yogadhayaya of Brihatajataka), sudra birth is unnoticed and is

solved by Varahamihira in Lost Horoscopy

Please read the commentary on the 4th verse of Hora -

 

Katham amurthasya kalasya murttitvamuchyate? ....

 

He gives the answer: Kalpanikatvameva phalavijnapakatve.

 

By a modelling of time for predictive purpose. There is no physical

effect of planets in Jyotisha. We are making use of mathematics and

logic to predict. With every transit we need not jump that the worlds

are going to collide. Some transit at some times can be made use for

prediction. Not that all transits at all times shall cause something...

Dear Ramji,

 

Gochara is a part of astrology. Not something independent as a system of

astrology.

 

You cannot judge a transit for all times as good or bad. Remember I

quoted a situation with Leo Lagna and Mars in 12th. Mars being

Yogakaraka, will give auspicious results. There is a traditional dictum

also that Mars does not have loss of strength in Kataka and it is true

at least in cases where Mars is Yogakaraka.

 

All transits become relevant only in certain contexts. There is no rule

like a particular transit will be good or bad for someone always.

Certain transits and at certain times can be employed for prediction

subject to natal horoscope/Prasna.

 

And regarding seeing from Moon, it is all hoccus-poccus by astrologers

nowadays. Clients may be having some problem and ultimately problem has

to be over with time. And normally it takes some say 6 months or 1 year.

So make some logic based on Guru or Sani (7.5Sani, Kantaka Sani, 8 Guru,

3Guru and so on) and the poor guy when the issue gets resolved will

think thta astrologer and astrology was right. Unless a client is

across the table, the transit wisdom has no predictive value.

 

All astrologers must think as to how the natural course of time and life

is. See Mars transits into Cancer every two years. Is it going to cause

calamity to every individual with each transit? People tend to

generalize the things after seeing one or two examples and the process

og bias is given the name 'research' in astrology.

Dear members,

Let me share how carrying out research based on newspapers and internet databanks can be misleading. Here is a genuine incident.....wrongly used in astrology circles.....wrongly reported by media......

News : It is known to all that ex-Prime Minister - Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged to death

Reality: He was long dead even before he was hanged. He was hit with gun butt when he spit on General Zia in a closed door discussion, resulting his death.

Verification: Newspapers reported that Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was NOT in good health at the time of hanging, for he was brought on a stretcher.

Reality: It is a law everywhere, that at the time of any Capital punishment, like hanging, electric chair execution... the person should be in good health. Read this statement in above context.

Note: Same thing of media over acting or mis-representing & distorting the facts to suit the occassion for gaining political mileage - is true in case of India's first Prime Minister Jawarhar Lal Nehru's death {Mode or Nature of death}.

Another hot controversy on father of nation Mahatma Gandhi's final words....which his Personal Secretary of many years & was also present at the time of death - refutes it. He is a lone voice amongst the millions of die-"heard" chorus of other pseudo congress men.

News repeated 100 times does not become truth.

So, we need to cautious in our use of this political horoscopes which are full of flith, unless one is looking for the "Needle in Rice Husk"..... { Needle is ok, rest of the words NOT sure, for quoting from my memory}

Note: "Needle in Rice Husk"... is an excellent movie on espionage during Second World War, where a German, with UK citizenship keeps leaking confidential information..... a MUST see for its Plot, Visualization & Picturization.

Namaste Mr. Hari ji,

 

You have a point { may be many, but limiting to this email}, as how to

see transits in a hororscope.

 

Common : Keeping the Lagna same

 

1) Position the transit planets and analyze and analyze

 

2) Position the transit planets, alongside the natal positions and

analyze

 

3) Transiting planet through the stellar positions and analyze

 

4) Looking through a specific transiting major planet { May be

mahadasha lord or Karaka..etc} and analyze

 

I am trying to understand the nadi methods of progression of Jupiter or

all planets for they are contrasting views in the classics... {

contrasting may be more in my own mind than in classics...!!}

 

What do you suggest or propose, should one intends to put in

efforts...in the astro_studies...
