Guest guest
In Tropical Astrology Jupiter is always named the Greater Benefic and Venus the Lesser Benefic. Mars is the lesser Malefic, Saturn the Greater Malefic and the Sun is not classified as a Malefic. How about in Vedic Astrology? Again there are two camps. One camp follows the Tropic Astrology classification except that they also classified the Sun as malefic with themes like combustion of planets. The other camp names Jupiter as a lesser benefic and Venus as the Greater Benefic. They also name Mars as the Greater Benefic and Saturn the lesser Benefic. The Sun remains as Malefic for this second camp. It is true Jupiter and Saturn are big planets. Jupiter also is a significator of many houses relating to wealth prediction (9th for fortune, 2nd for wealth, 11th for gains etc.) But if one were to adopt the position that what you see in the sky under visible eyes is accorded more weight in Vedic Astrology, then the second camp of Vedic Astrologers turn out to be correct. One hint as to why the direction points to the second camp is to look at the Moon. The Moon (whether dark or bright) is very important because it is nearest to the Earth and therefore the most visible. As scuh it is highly important in the Vedic Chart. If you have a bright moon, a lot of your problems are solved eg. psychologically as the Moon rules the mind. Hence the greater benefics or greater malefics should be accorded to the planets that are nearest to us. The Sun in this sense then is also one of the greatest malefics as it lights up the sky above us.
