Digbala - the Reason Why the Placement is Considered Good

Digbala is fully discussed in the Vedic literature. Most of the

astrologers will testify to the goodness of the placement for a

particular planet. I hereby summarise the main points why it is

considered good (which is always not explicitly stated) :-

(1) Planets in any angles give good results and are powerful. (This

is different from lordship whereby if a benefic planet rules an

angular house is not considered good - benefics being Venus, Jupiter,

bright Moon and Mercury with good association with benefics. Also

Vedic astrologers do not like Mars ruling the 10th House. It gives

inimical results even if Mars is Digbala in the 10th. But Mars in

Aries in the 10th is another matter altogether).

(2) The planet concerned is tied in with the theme of the House. So

the 4th House where the Nadir is, is the place of abode, comfort,

things are settled within 4 walls amicably. It is where people gather

together during the night. Hence the feminine planets Venus and Moon

becomes Digbala when placed there etc. It gives the person a

successful termination to his life.

(3) Some planets like Mars and Saturn have an added bonus when

Digbala. They are also in their exaltation house as well : the 10th

and 7th respecitvely.

(4) Some planets when they are in Digbala, aspects TWO of the trikona

houses 100% simultaneously from its angular position. So Saturn

aspects 1st and 9th from the 7th; Mars aspects 1st and 5th from the

10th and Jupiter aspects 5th and 9th from the 1st. This gives very

beneficial results.

By the way the fourth point of aspecting two trikona houses above

always works with Saturn, Mars and Jupiter whenever they are posited

in the Air, Earth and Fire Houses respectively. The angular houses of

Air (7th),Earth (10th) and Fire (1st) are just special cases of this

more general principle.

If you find a person born with Jupiter in the 1st, Mars in the 2nd and

Saturn in the 3rd, then because of the full aspects with the 5th and

9th Houses, the person is generally LUCKY. That however, is another

issue, and does not come under our current discussion of Digbala.
