Guest guest
Dear Renuji, What you have mentioned is a question that haunts the subconcious mind of any person with a genuine spiritual quest. I wish, in your mind, this question doesnt remain a question always. Some time we need to get an answer. Better late than never to realise that " Pothi Padh Padh Kar Jag Mua, Pandit Bhayo Na Koye Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Jo Padhe so Pandit Hoye " I have copied Kabir das' lines which we all have studied in school. Hope every body knows the meaning and do not need an explanation. I have always felt that whether it is astrology or philosophy, one must leave everything at one point. People who have had the realisation has rightly said that " Use a thorn to remove the thorn in your leg and leave both the thorns " . But we all are still keeping the thorn with us, I guess. And astrology is no exception. Guest guest
Dear Renuji, Even I do no know sanskrit. But this is hindi, local hindi(I donno if there is any word for this kind of hindi). The meaning is: " Nobody becomes a pandit (read " becomes wise " ) by reading books. Wise (pandits) are those who know the meaning of love. " To exaggerate the meaning " No point in reading any number of books, unless you learn to love unconditionally (divine love) " ) Regards, Jyothi I think I learnt this in 6th or 7th std. This is doha (two liner) of the famous poet Kabir das. , " renunw " <renunw wrote: > > Dear Jyothi, > > Kindly explain the meaning of the follwoing please...I am not > familiar with Sanskrit..though I understand a word or two here or > there..But frankly I am clueless of the overall meaning > > " Pothi Padh Padh Kar Jag Mua, Pandit Bhayo Na Koye > Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Jo Padhe so Pandit Hoye " > > Thanks ... > > blessings > > Renu > > > > > , " jyothi_b_lakshmi " > <jyothilakshmi.b@> wrote: > > > > Dear Renuji, > > > > What you have mentioned is a question that haunts the subconcious > > mind of any person with a genuine spiritual quest. Guest guest
Dear Renu ji, I am just wonder struck at the quote - me too don't know much Sanskrit. But it seems that the quote you provided is the doha of Kabirdas or someone like that - learned ones please correct me in this. It is Old Hindi and not Sanskrit. > " Pothi Padh Padh Kar Jag Mua, Pandit Bhayo Na Koye > Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Jo Padhe so Pandit Hoye " The approximate meaning of this quote is - " No one becomes (truly) knowledgeable by repeatedly reading (or memorizing) books. If some one knows 2.5 letters (one or two letters) of Love, he is the true knowledgeable one " Dear learned ones, please provide the exact reference of this verse (author and book) and the exact word by word meaning. I don't know the meaning of all the words in that quote - the one I could understand are - Pothi = Book; Padh Padh Kar = By repeatedly reading; Pandit=Knowledgeable one (true scholar); Bhayo Na Koye = No one becomes; Dhai = two and a half; Akshar = Alphabet (letters); Prem = Love; Prem Ke = of love; Jo = Whom so ever (the one); Padhe = reads; So = He; Pandit Hoye = Becomes the knowledgeable one. I don't know the meaning of the words - Jasg Mua. Some one please clarify this. May be Jyoti ji can shed more light on this. Guest guest
Dear Shreenadh, the translation of " jag " , u know, is " world " . " mua " is to be die / be destroyed. So maybe just reading books / " pothis " without learning two and a half ( " dhai " ) words ( " akshar " )of love is the death of us mortals? Also compare tomes / huge books/ pothis with just dhai akshar of love...the contrast is hilarious! i was moved by jyotiji's quote too, like u! , " Sreenadh " <sreesog wrote: > > Dear Renu ji, > I am just wonder struck at the quote - me too don't know much > Sanskrit. Guest guest
Dear Srinadhji, Jag mua, if my understanding is correct is " left the world(jag) " , means died. In short, people read and read books and finally died, but none of them became wise. I didnt give word to word meaning because that wont give the right meaning what is actually intended. I m not a pandit in Hindi either, but with my current knowledge and what our teachers taught, this is what I have understood. Guest guest
Dear Vinita ji, Thanks so much for the link to Bhakti Movement. I will surely go through it " Good to know that u are a Buddhist teacher. " Let me correct you a little here. I am a Buddhist and a teacher to young Buddhist monks. So I don't know whether it is correct to say that I am a 'Buddhist teacher'. Basically Buddhist teachers are Buddhist monks. Of course you get 'teachers for Buddhism' in schools where Buddhism is a subject in the school curriculum. But just because they teach Buddhism, they don't become true Buddhists. It is practice what makes a true Buddhist. I suppose this rule is valid to any other relgion as well. blessings Renu > -- In , " vinita kumar " <shankar_mamta wrote: > > Dear Renuji, > > Kabir has always been a source of inspiration. Guest guest
Dear Sreenadh ji, Thanks for your attempt. I think even Jyothi ji has given a similar meaning. Guest guest
Dear Vinita ji, Thanks for the clarification. Passing thought: Things that are non existent can not manifest. Even dream are composed of only 'known' things. something non-existent or not part of the ultimate base of the universe itself can not become the center point of existence. Love and Consciousness are there at the center of our worldly existence providing meaning to life itself. Thus, it must be essentially integral part of the universe (the total manifestation of the ultimate) itself. Thus love and consciousness 'exists' and there too at the center - as part of the essence! (of god ,man or universe!) There are some similar other quotes as well - for example - the quote with says that - 1)Mastering a single letter (mantra) is more than memorizing a thousand books. 2)A drop of love is more valuable than the total knowledge provided by many books. 3) No knowledge can help and life is useless if the consciousness it at least terned for a moment towards god to the attainment of enlightenment and so on. Note: Don't ask me to quote - I heard those quotes and forgot the wordings - but similar quotes would be available to some one I hope. Guest guest
Dear Renuji, I guess , it is because when we pronounce " Prem " , there is no " akar " in it. Means, we say Prem and not Prema. In that way, the letter " Ma " is incomplete, only half, as in " Hum " . " Pa " + " Re " + " M " - 2 and half of Ma ). A wild guess. Only Kabir can say what he meant. Regards, jyothi , " renunw " <renunw wrote: > > Dear Sreenadh ji, > > Thanks for your attempt. I think even Jyothi ji has given a similar > meaning. Guest guest
Dear Vinita ji and Sreenadh ji, Some teachings by Buddha applicalbe to anyone at anytime. Read during your free time...There is only one kind of true love....i.e. 'selfless love' " Seek no intimacy with the beloved and also not with the unloved, for not to see the beloved and to see the unloved, both are painful. Therefore hold nothing dear, for separation from the dear is painful. There are no bonds for those who have nothing beloved or unloved. From endearment springs grief, from endearment springs fear. From him who is wholly free from endearment there is no grief, whence then fear? From affection springs grief, from affection springs fear. From him who is wholly free from affection there is no grief, whence then fear? From attachment springs grief, from attachment springs fear. From him who is wholly free from attachment there is no grief, whence then fear? From lust springs grief, from lust springs fear. From him who is wholly free from craving there is no grief; whence then fear? From craving springs grief, from craving springs fear. From him who is wholly free from craving there is no grief; whence then fear? Guest guest
Hi Meaning of "Akshar" is letter not word. Thanks and regards sanjay - vinita kumar Saturday, December 01, 2007 1:39 PM Re: Seventh house and past life? (To renuji) Dear Shreenadh, the translation of "jag", u know, is "world". "mua" is to be die / be destroyed. So maybe just reading books / "pothis" without learning two and a half ("dhai") words ("akshar")of love is the death of us mortals? Also compare tomes / huge books/ pothis with just dhai akshar of love...the contrast is hilarious!i was moved by jyotiji's quote too, like u! , "Sreenadh" <sreesog wrote:>> Dear Renu ji,> I am just wonder struck at the quote - me too don't know much> Sanskrit. Guest guest
yes dear, after i wrote that message i realised by mistake...:( In fact i too was wondering what that dhai akshar was...whether it could be RAMAH the way it is written in Sanskrit with visargh. But then as Jyotiji has interpreted the doha...the dhai akshar is " prem " ...P...half " ra " and " M " . Guest guest
Dear Sarajit ji, There is one more point - Kabir was an enlightened man, a man beyond all religions. He was born in a family of Muslims and lived as part of no religion after enlightenment. Muslims, Hindus etc are all equal to him - as human beings. He was a Tailor and even after enlightenment he continued his life and work as a simple Tailor even though disciples where ready to help him with any amount of money. I feel it is wrong to associate such a great human being with any organized religion whether it be Hindu or Muslim - he was beyond. If Kabir said " Dhai Akshar Prem Ka " (The 2.5 letters of 'Prem') then he definitely means that itself and nothing else- we don't have any right to correct him by interpolating some `Ra-Ma' into it. Note that as Lakshmi ji pointed out the word 'Prem' is of 2.5 matra. Without this 2.5 letters of 'Love' who can we become truly knowledgeable at all? Because it is told by another enlightened being that 'God is Love' - and without love no one can become truly knowledgeable (i.e. enlightened). Love, Sreenadh , " Sarajit Poddar " <sarajit.poddar wrote: > > Dear Venkatraman, > > Would you please let us know according to which sada shastra, Raa-ma > is 2.5 akshars? Guest guest
|| Jaya Jagannath || Dear Sreenadh, You can address me by Sarajit without Ji... I think respect comes from the way we treat others ... not by calling them with respect and hence treat them otherwise ;-). I will be happy if anyone calls me just by my first name. I agree with you. Love is something which is beyond caste, race and religion. It is the essence of all religion. Thus Prem, which is infact 2.5 aksharas (pa- half, re- full, ma-full) is what Kabir meant. People from different religion can take prem based on their notion of god and thats quite OK. Kabir is beyond any religion!
