Guest guest
Dear All, * The Rishi Horas speaks about reading the natal chart from Lagna. The Houses are considered. [Chance of making-up an explanation only 1/12; Dependability - High (91.67%) ] * Then the concpet of looking at the chart from Lagna (Bhava Chinta); from each houses (Bhavat Bhava chinta) and from Significator (Karakat Bhava chinta) got introduced. This too is an ancient system supported by the Rishi horasa and Phaladeepika clearly present it in words. The Karakat Bhava chinta has got 2 variations - one looking from the sign in which house lord is posited (house lord is the significator/karaka for the house) and also looking from the natural significator (eg. Venus for marriage). So in total we get 4 starting points to look at something. [Chance of making-up an explanation is 4/12; Dependability - Medium (66.67%)] This is the range upto which the system is appreciated and accepted in Kerala. * Then came the text Uttara kalamrita which presents the concept of looking at the chart in another way. It was known that 2nd from 2nd, 3rd from 3rd, 4th from 4th etc is important. So the text took the count of lagna lord from lagna and the house at that much distance from lagna lord (If lagna lord is in 3rd from lagna, then 3rd house from lagna lord is AL) as important and called Arudha Pada. Or in other words, a new starting point was introduced from where to calculated the houses (also known as padas). But naturally enough since there are Lagna, House (Bhava) and Graha, three concepts simultaneously came into existence such as Arudha (padas), Bhava Arudha (padas) and Graha Arudha (padas). So in toltal we get 4+3 = 7 starting points to look at something. [Chance of making-up an explanation is 7/12; Dependability - Low (41.67%) ] Several new texts got introduced at this period. Some of the texts that originated and made use of this concept at this period was Devakerala ascribed to some keralite astrologer called Achuta (but he does not seems to be from kerala) and one little known text erroneously ascribed to sage Brigu known as Brigu Nadi. These texts must be of 14th to 16th century origin. * Then possibly some AP or Orissa astrologers added and introduced the several new starting points such as Pranapada lagna, Varnada lagna, Sri lagna, hora lagna, Ghati lagna and so on. The sad fact is that all these useless bullshit is ascribed at the head of sage Parasara and sage Jaimni. Combining all these stupidities including Arudha to Ghati lagna and modifying the texts BPHS and Jaimni sutra must have taken place between 14th and 17th century. Even taking these 5 new starting points, the total number of starting points increases up to 7+5=13. [Chance of making-up an explanation is 13/12; Dependability - Nil (-8.33%). By now you will note that astrology has became Asstrology!! ] Just expressing my sincere understanding about this story for the understanding of the group members, so that we all can select whether we want to learn and understand. Love and regards,Sreenadh
