Dear Members,

I have received a offline email from a member in this group which is reproduced below. { identity is confidential }. I thought the question is interesting and should have wider audience and hence posting it here in the group for everyone to read.

Let me say thanks to that member, who raised this query, a good one.

I am writing this to clear my doubt only. My basic astrology is from my father. He specifically taught me not to get confused with the characters described for various planets in various puranas and mythology. The physical planets are to be treated as told by elders and DEVATHA status given in puranas & mythology is not applicable in astrology But I find most of the seniors in the group attribute the quality of planets as given in puranas & mythology. Can you comment on this ?Unquote

Response:

If one reads the entire classification of Hindu scriptures starting from Vedas to Smritis to Puranas, one would observe a clearly see the systematic & consistency of thread of discussion of a subject.

The sheer length & breadth of the Hindu scripture classification is so huge, that only those born in India in a proper sanskara family { sanskara = traditional}, would have the advantage of learning it with age & appreciate it accordingly.

I have mentioned many times in my postings in this group & else where, Jyotish Group, VA group..etc.., that depending upon the mental aptitude of a person, he can go into details of the scriptures accordingly.

Say for those Techie scientists - Vedas & Upanishads would be relevant for them. Nueo Techies can stay put with commentaries of various Sages - Brahma Sutras. Common people can sit back and listen to the Puranas totalling 18 nos of them. In each of them, same knowledgebase thing is repeated, however, presentation differs....there is absolutely NO dilution of the message in any of the scriptures. Such consistency hard to find in any religion or holy books.

It is possible that a distorted thinking can lead to incorrect conclusions, hence reliance on the diluted yet simplistic stories in Puranas is to be carefully balanced. Take a recent Nakshatra Story in the group { copy & pasted from another group } posted by Mr. Chandu 2 Chill Message No. 7166, is not found in any Hindu scripture, but created humorously by an intelligent person to convey a message....

It is all with the individual, how he balances it.

The essence of this group is to look at the originals, the perspective of which we have lost today to a great extent and we do not know how to read a dasha of a planet

i.e. to see the postion of HL or then see Nakshatra Lord or Dispositor or Navamsa Lord or see the Transit position or how to combine them = then get into a dizzy mind - as to what to predict finally!!

With regards,

Sreeram_Srinivas
