Sharanji, Namaskar! <I have not only been following you but support your assertion that the festivals are being celebrated late - with my astronomical calculations.> Such words from a scientist/astronomer are a valuable asset for any fighter who has a tough job at his hands! You have articulated your views because you have no axe to grind as you are niether a " sayana- Vedic-astrologer " nor a " nirayana-Vedic-astrologer " , nor are you speaking on behalf of " His Master's Voice " ! <For you either of the options are feasible. I could not use either of them because I am not in India.> The first option viz. writing to the concerned authorities I have exhausted thoroughly but my pleadings have brought nothing but a deafening silence! This will be evident from copies of BVB5, BVB6 and PAC3 etc. document available in the files section. The second alternative i.e. a PIL is no doubt a better one and I had been toying with that idea for quite sometime. I even consulted a lawyer friend! We had had a thorough discussion and he went through all the papers/repesentations that I had made to various departments and Acharyas etc. Aftr going through all those papers, his candid opinion was, " In India we have more 'Vedic astrologers' than the total number of Hindus since there are quie a few overseas 'Vamadevas' also who have a very powerful lobby! As such, if we file a PIL, all the 'Vedic astrologersd' will ask for being co- opted! And the GOI will have the excuse that they are going by the Report of the Calendar Reform Committee of 1955 and also several subsequent Committees, the latest ones being that of 1994 at New Delhi and the subsequent Peer Review Committee of 1999. Unless and until a new Committee is established and unles that gives a verdict quite contary to the reports of the earlier Commiitteess, the GOI cannot do anything about it! And as and when there is another Committee/Commission, it will be by 'Vedic astrologers' of 'Vedic astrologers' and 'for Vedic astrologers'. As such, there has to be a mass movement first by common people who must make a concerted effort and then send a joint representation with hundereds if not thousands of signatures to the GOI that we are really celebrating our festivals on worng days. It is only then that the GOI may do something about it. If it does not do anything even then, then and only then, can we file a PIL " . Thus, as you will see, we are back to square one! And that is why I am trying to give a Clarion call to all the people of Hindu civilization that it is high time that we join our heads together and have the recommendatios of the earlier committees upturned. If you have some other ideas, please let me know. It certainly reminds me of Indian History where the Hindu Kings lost battles because the pundits and jyotishis prevented the kings to go to the battle at the right time but wait for the shubh moment. Unless the jyotishis agree even now, the courts in India as well the governments ( the king ) would not act. Who says we are living in the 21st century ? Since you are a Kashmiri Brahmin, Soniajee may listen to you. Once she shows sympathy for your cause, all the Congressees will raise slogan in your favour and stand on one foot and support you. Pl try this. Thanks. Anand M. Sharan hinducivilization , " Avtar Krishen Kaul " <jyotirved@> wrote: > > Dr. Anand M.
