Dear All,

Yesterday my mood was to go and purchase some astrology books. So I

went to Kamala Nagar, Delhi and from the Chaoukhamba book stall

purchased some books. The notable among them include-

1) Bhattolpala Vyakhya for Brihat Samhita

It is a rare to find gold mine; one of the most authentic

commentary on Brihat Samhita, with many quotes from ancient Rishi horas.

2) Adbhuta Sagara by Vallalasena (12th century AD)

It is an excellent book on Samhita skanda by Vallala sena, a King

who lived in 12th century AD. This is a text I was searching for many

years - inspired by the mention of Lohamani Dahal's words in his book

on the history of Astrology. This book is a treasure house of Ancient

Rishi samhita slokas - but yes, remember that this book is of Samhita

Skanda.

3) Atharva Vediya Jyotisham

It is an excellent small ancient book which deals with astrology

as in Atharva Veda!! Almost like a continuation of Atharva Jyotisha

which is part of the text Vedanga Jyotisha written by Lagatha. This

text deals with the same/similar concepts as laid out in Vedanga

Jyotisha of Lagatha; but continue to use those concepts for

astrological prediction! A excellent reply to some of the arguments

put forward by Kaul ji, about the vedic presence of astrology. :)

4) Jataka Saradeepa (16th century AD)

This is a text written by Nrisimha Daivajna, a scholar born in

Maharashta, who came with Sivaji's force; when he conquered the

regions up to Tanjavoor. Nrisimha Davajna lived in 16th century AD.

This text contains an excellent collection of ancient quotations, and

was lacking a proper commentary till now. But now the text is

available with a good commentary in Hindi. Actually I was having the

text Jataka saradeepa with me earlier itself without any commentary -

purchased directly from the Saraswati Mahal library itself - but could

not resist when I found this version with a Hindi commentary in

Choukhamba book stall.

4) BPHS with the commentary of Santanam.

I was having the Seetaram Jha version earlier itself, but as BPHS

is becoming a positive or negative influence now a days among the

scholars in all these groups, I thought it would be good to have the

santanam version as well. Moreover I am entirely new to the modern

BPHS/Jaimini mix-up systems.

5) Sambhu Hora Prakash

This is a book I felt a special interest after reading some of its

slokas; I don't know why. Hope that it would be beneficial. The

author's approach seems to be unique.

There is some more books I purchased such as Siva Samhita, Kheranda

Samhita, some 10 small books on astrology, Narapati Jaya charya

Svarodaya etc. What else to say Rs. 4000/- gone on books. :( But I

hope it won't be a waste of money. :)

If any of you are interested in any of these books - go an buy; they

are available. :)

Love,

Sreenadh

Ohh! Is that so?! If not digested what is the use with books? And

when digested where is the complexity and confusion? Then it would be

like a story - interesting to both the listeners and tellers. :) Any

thing if digested the complexity vanish and simplicity emerge! Why it

is so I don't know. That great man Osho must have read thousands of

Books - but he never quoted a Sanskrit sloka!! Can you believe! His

books and talks reflect that he digested well - Tantra (Read

discourses on Bhirava Tantra by him); Yoga (discourses on Patanjali);

Krishna (discourses on Krishna and Bhagavt gita); Astrology (two

excellent articles about astrology) and much more; Upanishads

(discourses on various Upanishads)etc - but still he very rarely

quoted even a single sloka! Two categories of people may avoid

quoting slokas, while talking about ancient Indian knowledge -

* An individual to whom the total system is very well digested and

to whom the subject is clear a pure crystal in hand.

* An individual who know nothing about the subject and wants to

hide his ignorance!

We are all some where in the middle - neither learned nor fools :(

Scratch the head, and ask to self - " Without slokas how can we

remember all these things? " - that is my condition. :(

Hope I have some company from good friends like you on the same. :)

Love,

Sreenadh

Dear Sunil ji,

The books I mentioned are mostly in Hindi with Sanskrit commentary.

Narapati Jaya charya Svarodaya is a book a book written possibly in

9th or 10th century by 'Narapati' who lived near Pataliputra; The

name of his birth place etc is given in that book but I forgot (I

typing this mail sitting in office ;)). It is a book that deals with

Journey (by the kings) for war and the omens and planetary positions

etc to be observed there upon. That is this book deals with subjects

similar to 'Brihat Yoga Yatra' of Varaha Mihira. Yes the special

importance to 'Swara' (Breath through the nostils) given in this book

and to its rhythem is unique and worth noting. As you said it could

be termed an Astro-Yogic book because of this, or else it is an

astrology book itself. :) By the way every true astrology book is an

Astro-Yogic book, since astrology itself emerged from the Yogic

experiance of body rhythm by the sages. :)

21600 min = Zodiac = 21600 breath = 1 Day = 1 Revolution of Earth =

360 Degree. Can such equations emerge without Yogic experience?!

Dear All,

Can any one put some light on the following condition

With vrishaba as lagna and saturn in fourth place along with rahu what would be the effect on the horoscope. I have learnt that saturn with rahu in fourth house shall give rise to conditions where in he doesnt own a house of his own as well as faces lots of cheating due to relations from mothers side. I would like to know more about this condition since saturn is yogakaraka for vrishaba lagna then will the effect change .

Please put some light on the above....................

Dear John,

Uttarakalamrita also deals with many chakras; Prasnamarga gives

many chakras; there is a big book to deal with Sarvatobhadra chakra

alone; There is a book for Rahu-Kalanala chakra alone. Narakaraka

Chakra, Nakshatra Purusha chakra etc are mentioned in Jatakalangara,

Brihat Jataka etc. I think most of the astrology books mention one or

more chakras for sure. Rasi chakra and Nakshatra chakra the 2 will

get mentioned for sure. :)

Even for marriage compatibility all of us use many chakras such as

Nakshatra Vedha chakra, Pancha varga Vedha chakra, Ranju chakra

(Phaneeswara chakra or Nadi chakra) and so on. I think is it very

difficult to find a book with out any mention of some or the other

Chakra.

It seems that the ancient texts use the word Chakra, Yentra etc to

mean " geometrical diagram with some special significance " . The actual

meaning of the word Chakra = Wheel and Yentra = Machine; does not

seems to fit in with the usage meaning of these words in many

situations.

Love,

Sreenadh
