Dear Kumarji

A very HAPPY Shiv Ratri to you too! It has a very personal significance

to me. The person who was to be my father in this lifetime was born on

that very day but lost his own father when he was a few weeks old. So,

fatherhood has been an important thing for me in this lifetime.

Charakarakas are indeed very important for most of us living in the

here and now!

Dear Learned Astrologers & Members,

I wish you my best wishes, from the core of my heart, on the

auspicious event of Shivaratri.

Legend has it that Shiva was married to Parvati on this ratri(night) &

also some other stories that a Vyadha(butcher/hunter in modern

context) was resting on a tree, which was co-incidentally a " Bilwa "

tree...under which a Shiva Lingam was placed. Knowingly/Unknowingly,

he dropped few Bilwa leaves on the lingam, he was fasting on that day

as well, as he had meat with him, but only to share with his family.

On the following day he returned home, with the meat & shared with his

family & some guests, & after his death, when the messengers of

" Yama " (Lord of Death) came to receive, they were defeated by

messengers of Shiva, who came to receive his soul & carry him over to

Shiva Loka.

This story, a story though has a different meaning, as our brain being

limited to work out, cannot catch the meaning of the story.

Shiva is said to be Trikalajna--Knower of Past, present & future. May

he guide us in every sphere of life, whatever decisions we take,

whatever we do---may all this be dedicated to Lord Shiva, as he is the

giver of Salvation.

A small funny story, which I heard from a Sanyasi about Shiva, I am

writing here..

" Once Parvati complained that Shiva is doing nothing--- he sits

totally unemployed. After continuous complaints from Parvati, Shiva

left kailasha with his bull, Nandi, in search of a plot, as he would

like to do some form of farming.

" After few months..Shiva came back to Kailasha, & told Parvati that he

has been successful & expressed his desire that Parvati must see it.

" When Parvati reached that place, where Shiva was busy in his

" cultivation " , she found that there was nothing but plantations of

" Hemp " (Marijuana/Ganja/Bhaang!!!) " .

CAVEAT: I got this from a gujrati sister so this could be a BIASED

message!

After being treated like servants and molested by their husbands, one

day the sherni in a gujrati woman woke up and along with her caucus

of like-minded gujrati women they decided that on 14th of February

they will celebrate the Belan Time. That day their husbands got

beaten up by ALL women with belans! Soon husbands grew wiser and

before their wives raised the belan they began offering flowers,

gifts and chocolates. Over centuries the term got corrupted and is

now called Valentine day!
