Guest guest
Hello Sir, I have been asked to daily recite Gayatri mantra ( as many times as I can - no fixed number ). I have also been asked to keep a fast on Thursday because - " Guru " planet is strong in my charts. My request to you all was to make me understand the significance of Gayatri mantra - benefits that one gets by reciting the mantra - who should recite the mantra. I am also told that I should also recite " OM namah Shivay " mantra as many times as I can . If some one can also educate me about the significance of the this mantra and the benefits that one may get by reciting this mantra and who should recite this mantra. Thank you sir , for allowing me to post my request. Regards

Guest guest
In this context, Pandit Ravishankar has produced a CD named Vedic Chants. It pleases the ear, heart and the soul. Sanskrit is difficult to write phonetically in english without the complex diacritical marks which are very unwieldy to plough through! Almost by convention spellings like Dharma have become acceptable however I have seen some people (of non indian origin mostly) getting confused and pronouncing these words as Dha'rmaa (a' as in actor and aa as in hindi name for mango = aam). For them Dhurm probably is more phonetically appropriate with the trailing 'm' being a solid one and not one with a 'halant'. To a hindi-speaking person dhurm will have a 'u' sound with a sharp and short 'm'. It is best to hear, as you rightly suggested. Guest guest
Dear RRji thanks for noticing the diff esp Sri Sri ravi shankar's CD I am sure u r aware of him being different to Pt ravishankar [sitar] the former is a South Indian-Karnataka or Mysore Maharaja's dewan's grandson. took to a spiritual path and id is a well known NGO apart from his spiritual exploits and a tireless worker in conflict and natural calametyies prone regions will never get a Nobel prize as he is working in too many areas but tarteged ones in East Timor or in calcutta did get a Nobel prize in a free society. ravishankar ji has done exceptionally well in many troubled places. a meteioric rise was a disciple of Mahesh Yogi who spotted the potential in him and asked him to set up his own order. and has proved his master right. ON SANSKRIT REDDERING THE BLAME IS ON FILMS AND NON hINDU TEACHER, WRITERS using it sadly the Brahmins who did not teach it to all rather their own faith but did teach some of them so this dilution from alien speakers, writers has got more spread than if a Brahmin taught parampara for al worked down the ages. so partly the blame is on us as well. my post was not aimed at anyone but was a reflection why it cud have been diluted in diction. the NEW AGE MEDIUM CASSETTES, CDS internet file sharing has spread the good works faster. prashant prashant --- On Sat, 2/21/09, Rohiniranjan <rohini_ranjan wrote: Rohiniranjan <rohini_ranjan Re: Gayatri mantra and OM namah Shivay mantra Saturday, February 21, 2009, 10:39 AM In this context, Pandit Ravishankar has produced a CD named Vedic Chants.
