Guest guest
|| Hare Rama Krsna || Dear Michal, Namaskar Pournima tithi actually started when the Moon was in Sagittarius (see how close the Sun is to the cusp) - which perhaps explains it. Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Namaste Michal, My two cents follow. On the day of ashadha poornima, moon has to be in one of the ashadha nakshatras...either Poorvashadha or Uttarashadha. Poorvashadha is totally in sagittarius, while uttarashadha is partly in sagittarius and partly in capricorn. So, mostly on gurupoornima, Moon remains in Sagittarius. Further, Poorvashadha is ruled by asura guru Venus and Uttarashadha is ruled by Sun, whom i consider the original bhratrikaraka because he removes darkness like the guru. Hence Guru is considered trimoortyatmaka like the Sun. Perhaps the full Moon in in the ashaadha month is dedicated to Guru, because the world is on the verge of dakshinaayana (night)and needs the blessings of Guru to fight the impending darkness. Today is the birthday of Vedavyasa, who in himself had embodied the four kinds of blessings that are said to enrich and elevate human life...Bhagavat kripa (blessings of god),Guru Kripa (blessings of Guru), Shaastra kripa (blessing of knowledge) and Antah karana kripa (blessing of having a clean & firm mind fixed in the above pursuits). On this day, we indirectly worship Vedavyasa through our gurus, and seek the same blessings. Regards, Lakshmi --- Michal Dziwulski <nearmichal wrote: > Hare Rama Krsna > > Dear list members, > > Please pardon my ignorance, I just wanted to know > why it is Guru poornima? Guest guest
Dear Lakshmi, On 7/21/05, lakshmi ramesh <b_lakshmi_ramesh wrote: Om Gurave NamahOn the day of ashadha poornima, moon has to be in one of the ashadha nakshatras...either Poorvashadha or Uttarashadha. Only in a majority of cases, I might add. Guru Poornima in 2001, and 19-year multiples thence backwards, occurred in Moola. Perhaps the full Moon in in the ashaadha month is dedicated to Guru, becausethe world is on the verge of dakshinaayana (night)and needs the blessings of Guru to fight the impending darkness. A full one-third of uttarayana is still balance, Lakshmi, unless the darkness is already upon me ) And if I might add for Michal Dziwulski, it isn't always necessary for sun and moon to be seven houses apart for the full moon to occur, just as they needn't be together in a sign for the new moon; full and new moons are only instants. The moon, though, does appear full a few days before and after the exact time of the phase. Moon phases are around a week apart due in part to the moon's elliptical orbit and that the earth-moon system is in orbit around the sun. Which is why you'll also find eclipses occurring at times that aren't automatically intuitive from a peek at the horoscope. Sorry for being excursive. Respects, Ramapriya ayirpamar Regards,Lakshmi--- Michal Dziwulski <nearmichal wrote: > Hare Rama Krsna > > Dear list members,> > Please pardon my ignorance, I just wanted to know> why it is Guru poornima?
