Guest guest
for info. Many people think 'fasting' means not taking food. 'Fasting' is called 'Upavaasam'(living in the God). This denotes that we should keep our body and mind concentrated only on God. While doing this, you may forget food, and all. This is real fasting. Thanks Rgds, Kapil
Guest guest
||Jai Ramakrishna|| Dear Shree Kapil & learned members, Yes the fact is very much true. Upa means " near " (nikat in sanskrit) & basa means to stay----staying closer to god & discussing about him. Today in real life, you see people are doing fasting but not upabasa, & are involved in criticising about the people, relatives & friends....not discussing about God. Moreover, people are more concerned what to eat after fasting, so it becomes fruitless. Same goes for " Upanayanam " which means staying closer to guru & learn the vedas, shastras, smriti & shruti from Guru---that is Upanayanam---not the Janeu /thread ceremony as we see today & in previous time there was no concept of Janeu. The guru used to accept Shishya by giving his disciple a thread, which he had to tie around the waiste & wear the dhoti on top of it.
