rama was born as vishnu was cursed by vrinda

dear friends

many people wonder as to why king rama suffered various hardships

like fourteen years of secluded life in jungles (equivalent to life

imprisonment under present Indian law) and separation from wife and

children etc. several astrologers tried to cast king rama's chart

based on the descriptions given in valmiki Ramayana and find out

astrological reasons for his troubles but astrologically his chart is

the best one could imagine.

The only reason for the sufferings of king rama or lord rama in human

form (a reincarnation of lord Vishnu) is due to the curse received by

lord Vishnu from pativratas (chaste women) for outraging their

modesties by deceit.

once upon a time brihaspati (jupiter) and indra (king of devatas)

visited kailasha to meet lord shiva and to test them, shiva appeared

in the form of a digambara and not realizing it, indra tries to kill

him with his thunderbolt due to which lord shiva gets furiated and

releases fire from his third eye. realizing the anger of lord shiva,

jupiter makes indra fall at the feet of shiva and prays to lord shiva

to shower mercy and spare indra after which lord shiva lets the fire

released from his third eye thrown into the salt ocean (lavanambodhi)

and this fire that has fallen into this ocean takes the form of a boy

called jalandhara. since jupiter helped indra get his life back,

lord shiva grants the name of jeeva (enlivener) to jupiter. later

realizing the strength of jalandhara, brahma blesses him to become

the emperor of asuras and asks sukra (venus) to coronate and later

performs jalandhara's marriage with vrinda, the daughter of

kalanemi. seeing the headless rahu, jalandhara finds out the reason

for rahu's headlessness and decides to fight with vishnu. in the

battle, sukra used to bring back the dead asuras to life with his

mritasanjivini vidya and jupiter used to bring back the dead devatas

to life with rarest herbs found only in drona mountain. knowing

this, jalandhara uproots the drona mountain and throws into the

ocean. (drona mountain is now in the almora district of kumaon).

jalandhara fights battle with vishnu and make vishnu and his family

live in jalandhara's house and conquers all the three worlds. vishnu

could not win the battle since jalandhara is born out of lord shiva.

then sage narada hatches a plot and tells jalandhara to go and get

parvati who is the most beautiful woman in the world. narada also

tells that once even brahma fell to the beauty of parvati but was

cursed by siva which was a different story. then jalandhara goes to

manasasarovar and find parvati who gets vanished after spotted by

jalandhara and asks Vishnu to outrage the modesty of jalandhara's

wife saying that as long as his wife is chaste, due to her power,

jalandha cannot be killed even by shiva. jalandhara becomes busy in

kailasa to get paravati and fight lord shiva.

vishnu cast (maya) a bad dream for vrinda, the wife of jalandhara

after which vrinda goes into the forest and find two monsters fleeing

from which she approaches a brahmin who kills these monsters with a

mere sound. then vrinda asks this brahmin to let her know the status

of jalandhara who had gone to fight shiva and this brahmin lets two

monkeys bring the deadbody of jalandhar in front. vrinda falls at

the feet of this brahmin and prays to him to bring back jalandhara to

life and lo, jalandhara (vishnu in disguise) wakes up and embraces

vrinda and have sex only after which she realizes that it was vishnu

and not jalandhara and curses vishnu to take a human shape and then

his wife would be distracted by two rakshasas, the same two monsters

who made vrinda to approach this deceitful brahmin. like this

brahmin, a demon in disguise as a brahmin approaches your wife and

abducts her. like me, you would also search for your wife in

jungles. since you used monkeys to bring a false deadbody of my

husband, you would not find your wife without taking the help of real

monkeys. after giving these curses, the chaste vrinda enters into a

fire and attains salvation.

from the above, it is clear that vishnu took a human shape only due

to the curse of vrinda and his search in jungles, deceit by the

rakshasas, his wife taken away by another person, taking the help of

monkeys is all due to the curse of vrinda, a pativrata. these

stories also highlight the power of a chaste woman by signifying that

even if the husband of a chaste woman is bad, he would become

invincible due to the power of his wife.

since these stories find mention in various puranas, astrologers who

prepared the chart of rama based on the details given in valmiki

ramayana, may find out how these curses are reflected in his chart.

Namaste,

Thank you very much for your good educative post;the irony is that though we

live in Kaliyuga i.e., TWO YUGAS ( Treta, Dvapara yugas ) past SREE RAAMAA , we

see curses earned by HIM is seem to be so enormous and more effective even now ,

that HIS name and history are being tarnished and his existence being

interrogated by people who matter much in the present ruling dynasty.

Will THE ADVENTIST Sree Kalki Avatar carry on HIS crusade to re-establish

Raamaraaja ,at least by 2011?!

Namaste Pandit Arujun2004-ji of "Navagraha",

Good posting after a long time......Just to add few more points......"Jaladhar" {Jala=Water, Dhar = Stream} is the brother of Goddess Laxmi {American English equivalent to Original Indian name LAKSHMI}. "Vrunda" first curses Lord Vishnu to become a statue or immobilizes him. Later on pleading by Goddess Laxmi, Vruda nullifies the curse. {There is a Hindu festive attached to the visit of Laxmi to Vruda's house, by which Vrunda is constrained to oblige....do not remember the "tithi"....of that day....will read the books again...}...

As an acknowledegment of the gratitude, Lord Vishnu gives her that she would be worshipped as "Tulasi" in Kaliyug....... Hence, the worship of this herbal plant "Tulasi" in Hindu customs by women, the health of the "Tulasi" plant indicates the wellness of the husband...... & vice versa..... with special curative properties.

The critical thing that one should be noting here.....for the sake of protecting the world - read it as - devotees of Lord..., the Lord can go to any extent to break his own rules.....hence the title of "Amani" { A person who has no -maan or abhimaan...}

Example:

In Mahabharat mythology, after fierce fighting display of Grandpa Bhisma, knowing he cannot be won over, Lord Krishna advises Distress Princesses Draupadi to the inner chambers to Grandpa Bhisma at midnight and to ensure that his sleep is not disturbed...Lord Krishna takes the "high heeled footwear" of Distressed Draupadi into his hands,......tell her to sit at the foot of Grandpa Bhisma & massage his feet, .....being tired...he wakes up after a while.... & realizes the two visitors around him....and he himself being a devotee of Lord Vishnu.....addresses him that ....you Lord Krishna ...have NO manners for entering the inner chambers, at that odd hours, making Distressed lady Draupadi to massage his feet.....taking those "chappals" {chappals=footwear} in his own hands..etc.. {one single word in Sanskrit = "Amani"...a person without manners}...etc..

Bhisma,who never took services of a woman,....having took benefit of blissful sleep when his feet were massaged by Lady in Distress, was obliged to return her a favor by blessing her " Sumangali bhavah" { sumangali = continued marriage bliss, bhavah= affirmation}

In the Vishnu_Sahasra_Nama, this title "Amani" is also used to describe/attributed to him.

With regards,

Sreeram_Srinivas

firstly the lesson that these curses highlight is that if a man falls

for another woman (other than his wife) he is bound to suffer in

later future or in next births. these incidents also highlight how a

man must impose self discipline and self restrictions and not fall

pray to the beauty of other women. lord vishnu fell for several

women and earnt various curses and all these are narrated in our

puranas in detail. for example, vishnu fell for tulasi, the wife of

sankhachuda whereafter tulasi curses vishnu to become a rock. indra

falls for ahalya, wife of sage gautam and earns various curses.

however, we all must not mince words while praising the power of a

pativrata, as these pativratas are so powerful that even malefic

planets cannot harm their husbands.

besides relying squarely on astrology, we as astrologers must also

warn the natives that any good or bad karmas done by them will yiled

good or bad results in future and hence natives must stive to do only

good deeds. the karma theory is so strong that even gods, sages and

devatas suffer for their karmas if not in one birth, surely in the

next birth.

as regards rama criticised even today by some, i can only preach one

thing that if one cannot praise or worship someone, please do not

criticise or abuse. if you dont do any poojan, it is fine but dont

do any dooshan.

the kalki avtaar and the reestablishment of ramarajya can be seen

several centuries later which we all cannot witness as the present

world has just started showing symptoms of majority people sinning

and the avtaar comes only when the paap reaches parakastha.

dear friend

thanks for supplementing with additional information.

there is another story in the puranas where tulasi, daughter of

dharmadhvaja marries sankhachooda. sankhachooda was the son of

dhambha and in his previous birth he was sudama, a comrade of

krishna. due to the curse of radha, sudama becomes a daanava and is

born as sankhachooda. while sankhachooda was busy fighting with

shiva before he was slain by lord shiva, vishnu goes to tulasi in the

disguise of sankhachooda and tells her that he had defeated all and

came home victorious and have sex with tulasi, afterwhich act tulasi

realises that it was vishnu and not her husband and gives a curse to

vishnu that he would become a rock. then shiva grants a boon to

tulasi that her body would become sacred river gandaki and the holy

basil plant by her name would be the most holiest of all plants. as

the presiding diety of this plant, tulasi will assume a divine form

and is forever in the company of lord vishnu. the rock of vishnu on

the banks of gandaki river will become small shaligrams with various

naturally carved rings. these shalagrams are very holy and

meritorious of worship. lord shiva also states that if anyone plucks

the leaves of tulasi lying on the shalagrama, he will be separated

from his wife in the next birth. if anyone plucks tulasi leaves

without using conch, he will become a widower and a chronic patient

for seven births. he who keeps shalagrama, tulasi and sankha in one

place, will be a favourite of vishnu.
