Guest guest
Hi there - I will share with you the information my astrologer friend gave me for the conception of my own children: Garbadhana Samskara is the ritual for attracting an advanced soul into the womb. It starts with living a pure life - no meat, fish, eggs, no intoxication, no sex for sense gratification, no gambling. Then it goes on with determining an auspicious date for conception, as follows: First you have to consider your menstrual cycle. If eg. your cycle starts this month on the 6th, then that is the first day of your cycle, then that is considered an " odd " day, the first day. So all odd days are considered good for girls, all even days good for conceiving boys. Days closer to your period time are better for girls, longer after your period better for boys. However, the first 4 days of your period are inauspicious, usually asuras engage in sex during this time. On the fifth day if your period is over, you can consider, it will most likely be a girl. The sixth day will give a good son. Seventh a girl, 8th a boy, 9th girl, 10th boy, 11th girl, 12th son, 13th girl, 14th boy, 15th girl, 16th a very powerful boy. But as I said, closer to the period (5th, 7th) is more likely to be a girl, later days like 12th, 14th, 16th better chances for boy. Then you have to look at the planetary constellations - Nakshatras like Rohini, Swati, Sravana etc. are good for conception, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are auspicious whilst Saturday, Tuesday and Sunday should be avoided. As for Tithis (lunar days) the 4th, 8th, 9th, 14th and especially full moon and new moon and ekadasi and trayodasi should be avoided. At the time of nuptuals, the 8th house should be devoid of any planets. An auspicious planet in the rising sign like the moon is good. Taurus Libra and Pisces rising is good. Days of Vrata and fasting days should be avoided (eg Janmasthami etc.) Between 9pm and 12pm at night is most auspicious. It is usually difficult to find that ALL the factors are perfect, and it also depends on your karma. If there is no boy or girl indicated in your chart you will not be able to have one even if you follow all conditions. There are other recommendations also, for a boy the husband should be sexually stronger and for a girl the wife should have stronger sex desire. Two good books for Grhasthas to have are the purple SAMSKARA book compiled by Prema Rasa dasa - you could probably get a copy from some ISKCON temple if you do not have one (they sell them in Mayapur and Vrndavana). Then also Sat-kriya-sara-dipika by Gopal Bhatta Goswami, recently translated into English (this book mainly gives some mantras to chant) So once you have the auspicious date, you have to purify your house with cowdung and cow urine, hang garlands, chant a lot on that day and pray to the Deities, then perform the rite after 9pm, once again chanting the appropriate mantras as found in the Vaisnava manuals mentioned above (other sampradayas may recommend other mantras). The idea is for the atmosphere to be pure and sattvic (in the mode of goodness) and also the mind to be pure and peaceful, not too lusty, violent or distracted, but remembering God. Then after conception if you wish to have a male child you should perform the Pumsavana Sacrifice in the 3rd month after conception. But that is ONLY for male child! Then also another sacrifice for safe delivery later on, which should be done by everyone! All that is described in the above books. It is good for devotees to try and follow the rules as they are meant to help attract an advanced soul, but of course chanting Hare Krishna is the most important. HERE IS THE SAMSKARA BOOK DETAILS: The Book of Samskaras Purificatory rituals for successful life (Vaisnava tradition of India) Prema Rasa Dasa and Sandipani Muni dasa Printed by Spectrum Publishers, New Delhi, 2004 Most ISKCON temples sell this book. They also have an email address but I'm not sure if it is working: rivault108 Best wishes Ila devi dasi janetraju176 <janetraju176 wrote: Dear all, What is the purpose of Garbhadhana Samskara?
