Guest guest
Pranam Gurujan, I am a new member in this group and did learn about this group from another astro-forum. I have no Guru in astrology and wish to have one. However, I am not in India but in CA,USA. Can learned members here please let me know if a Guru is essential to learn this subject or can one learn it by herself by reading books? Also, would someone agree to be my Guru. I don't hail from a astrology family and am not a Brahmin by birth. Pranam Satya
Guest guest
Dear Satyabhama, You have signed yourself as Satya. But your id shows SatyaBhama. Satya in India denotes a male, while Satyabhama denotes a female. So if you are a female, then type your full name , to remove ambuiguity. When You wish to have a Guru, and when your desire is great, and your efforts in the direction of the area in which the Guru is, excels, then you will be automatically directed to your guru, by the Mother nature. Distances do not matter for one to have a Guru, or for one to be a shishya. My Spiritual Guru is dead long back, about a 100 years ago. Yet I know I can reach Him whenever I want, and so can He. Therefore neither distances, and neither forms of existences matter. One can learn from books for a start, but eventually , one needs a Guru, or, a Guru is desirable, for proper directions, in which one puts his attentions for a particular line of studies.. I do not think its easy for one to call himself a "Guru", so I doubt whether one could accept himself as a "Guru" of someone ( If he is a Genuine Guru), at least in astrology. It is for you to find out whom you fancy as suitable enough, to be made a Guru, and it is for the Guru to himself decide, whom is to be made a shishya. Neither do I hail to be from a family of astrologers, and neither I am from a Brahmin family, yet I am into astrology, from the early morning sunrise to sunset, and from the late sunset, to sunrise. Nothing else interests me, or matters for me, or gives me company, or clouds my mind, except astrology, every minute of the day, apart from the name of the sweet Lord, and the knowledge of my right or wrong karmas done during the day. Forget all this. One becomes somebody through merit and actions, and not necessarily by birth. best wishes, Bhaskar. , "Satyabhama Gupta" <satyabhama_gupta_1980 wrote:>> Pranam Gurujan,> I am a new member in this group and did learn about this group from another astro-forum.> I have no Guru in astrology and wish to have one. Guest guest
Pranam I am a lady and my name is Satyabhama. The phrase " Pranam Satya " was in my signature and thus caused the confusion. I apologize for any confusion caused. Thank you for your words of inspiration and it is really great to know about someone so passionate about jyotish. I did browse through some of the wonderful articles in the file section and shall start reading from there. Thanks for your guidance and words. Guest guest
Pranam I had a very rudimentary question on astrology. Please do excuse me for asking such a basic question. If someone has Lagna/Asc in 10 Degrees Leo, we consider that first house as Leo If someone has the Lagna in 20 Degrees Leo, then too we consider the first house as Leo If someone has the Lagna in 29 Degrees Leo, then too we consider the first house as Leo Shouldn't we consider the Lagna to be the center of the horoscope and in that case is their a possibility that two different rasis can form the houses of the horoscope? Guest guest
Dear Satyabhama ji,//Shouldn't we consider the Lagna to be the center of the horoscope and in that case is their a possibility that two different rasis can form the houses of the horoscope?//First house of a chart is always fixed depending on the rashi rising at the time of birth, but movement of planets/signs in relation to the rashi chart can be studied by using the bhava chalit chart. There are various other systems which also tackle this issue by using the rising degree on the cusp of first house or in the middle of first house. One has to carefully understand the implications of planet/ascendant in a house vis-a-vis in a sign. Hope this helpsRegardsNeelam2009/3/16 Satyabhama Gupta <satyabhama_gupta_1980 Pranam I had a very rudimentary question on astrology. Please do excuse me for asking such a basic question. Guest guest
Dear Satyabhama, This is a good question . The Lagna will fall in two houses (Mostly)whenever you make a Bhava Chalit especially when the ascendant degrees is near the mid of any sign. For eg.in my case with Leo 15 degrees ascendant, the first 15 degrees falls in the 12th house, and the next 15 degrees falls in the first house. Thus there is actually co-ownership of the 12th house by both Moon and Sun, while in the first house there is co-ownership by both The Sun and Mercury. This happens when you make a Parashari, or a Shripathi or a Placidus Bhava Chalit Chart. But for all practical purposes, the owner of the house is taken to be the owner of the sign degrees where the Cusp falls, that is the beginning of the house. The center of the house is taken in Indian Traditional system known as the midpoint, while for other House divisions, this same degrees is taken as the beginning of the Cusp (House). Even though the above is not followed., yet a smart and wise astrologer would immediately know what is the difference between the results which the native will face, when the Native has Leo 10 degrees as ascendant , or 20 degrees or 29 degrees. Why ? Because the Ascendant StarLord will change . What you have asked is neither a rudimentary question , nor a basic one. This is what every astrologer worth his salt, must know, but unfortunately 99% of the astrologers working on these Groups, and otherwise do not know even such basics, hence their predictions fails 10 out of 10 times, unless they toss a coin for heads or tails and give predictions, where by the law of probabilities they will be given 50% correct answers, though this is not astrology but a humbug way of fooling innocent people. best wishes, Bhaskar. , "Satyabhama Gupta" <satyabhama_gupta_1980 wrote:>> Pranam> I had a very rudimentary question on astrology. Guest guest
Pranam Bhaskar Sir and Neelam Madam, Thank you very much. I have a few other questions but I am hesitant to ask them for two reasons: 1) I am new and I don't want to hamper the already existing process/flow of the group. 2) I am new and fear my questions, if found naive, may incur the wrath of already knowledgeable individuals in this group. However, if Gurujans here agree to give me " abhay daan " , I shall inculcate the courage to pen down my questions/doubts. Guest guest
Dear Satyabhama ji,//I am new and fear my questions, if found naive, may incur the wrath of already knowledgeable individuals in this group.//Knowledge, if sought for the sake of knowledge, never incurs any wrath and a sincere seeker would find many teachers. /However, if Gurujans here agree to give me " abhay daan " , I shall inculcate the courage to pen down my questions/doubts.//As I said, if your quest is for learning, you don’t need any 'abhay daan'. Very often we see people projecting something and actual purpose is entirely different. When there is a dishonesty in approach, it gets reflected in the query and one “incurs the wrath” I put it in your words. You have already been asking too many people and obviously you will have your share of knowledge. Hope you have the acumen to separate grain from the chaff. We have some stones on these fora who have been rolling for long, and have gathered no moss! Hope I am clear.RegardsNeelam2009/3/17 Satyabhama Gupta <satyabhama_gupta_1980 Pranam Bhaskar Sir and Neelam Madam, Thank you very much. Guest guest
Pranam Madam and all My query is on Retrograde planets-some books say that they are stronger, some say they are weaker, some say they give opposite results than their general behavior. This has created confusion for me. I know of a case where one has retrograde Mercury in Gemini with Retrograde Venus. Would this Mercury act as a debilitated/afflicted Mercury because it is retrograde? I also did not find very good literature on Retrograde planets. If anyone can point me to such texts, that will be helpful.
