Dear Neelamji,

Thank you for your wishes. Today, we all are studying, getting

degrees, doing post-graduations, getting awards, accolades,

felicitations, but what is the result???

In sanskrit we say " Vidyam Dadati Vinayam " ...are we having enough

humility??Or is it ego clash everywhere??Before doing anything, or

taking any step we always focus on whom to defeat & how to defeat,

never look back & see, that I may be defeated as well...

It is the humility, that humbleness, that " Vinaya " which we lack today

is very much needed.

Holy Mother Sarada Devi(Shri Ramakrishna referred her as " Sarada,

Saraswati, she has come to give us Knowledge " ), used to say, " Never

find faults in others, rather find the fault in yourself;if you are

concerned about your faults, you will try to rectify yourself, whereas

if you find faults in others, in the end of the day you will see

faults in everything & will inculcate those faults in yourself... "

" Tava noumi saraswati paadayugam.... "

Thank you,

Gaurav.

Dear Gaurav and group,Thank you Gaurav for your good thoughts. If you get to the root cause, the entire problem springs from our ignorance. It has to do with understanding and realizing what we actually want to gain or achieve? Our education these days does not give us the vidya you are talking about. It only imparts a kala to gain to vocation or livelihood.

Our natural state of being is to be happy so we get into a search-mode for this happiness. Without Vidya, most of us do not know what exactly do we want and what is that which will give us happiness? Sadly, no education teaches us where to look for happiness and we all grow up as confused beings, running after one thing or the other, but never to get that coveted happiness!!

A poor man thinks money will make him happy, a childless couple asks for a child to liberate them from miseries, a rich man would give his riches to regain health, so on and so forth. But do they live happily ever after?

And the irony is that, if were allowed to choose things which would make us happy, I think no one would be able to choose wisely to remain happy for ever. There is a very funny and enjoyable story about this and the moral of the story is that even GOD cannot give is anything till we alter our own state of mind and know what is it that we really wish to have that will make us truly happy?

A poor man used to visit a nearby temple with whatever he could scrape together – fruits, sweets, coins -- and lay them before the image. He thought that one day Lord would appear before him and grant him a boon to remove his poverty.

And one day Lord was indeed pleased with this humble worship, spoke aloud to the man: " All right, I give you as a boon three wishes and a pair of dice. " Rushing home even without thanks, the man told his wife the wonderful news. She told him to throw the dice and wish for wealth first. But he thought a moment and then said, " Look, we both have ugly little noses and people make fun of us. Why not ask for beautiful noses first? "

His wife was for wealth first, and caught hold of his hand to keep him from throwing the dice. Pulling his hand away he quickly threw the dice, exclaiming, " We want nothing but noses, beautiful noses. "

At once their bodies were covered with beautiful noses. Noses all over. What a nuisance! So they both agreed they would have to use the second wish to get rid of the noses. When people get excited they are likely to make mistakes like this; when he threw the dice again, the husband said, " Let these pesky noses be taken off. " At once they were gone, and the noses on their faces went too! Now they were uglier than ever.

Only one wish left. Why not ask to have a fine, well-proportioned nose on each face? Ah, but now some sense was dawning upon them: people would see the new noses and ask them about how they got them. They would have to explain and people would call them fools and make more fun of them all the more for wasting their three wishes.

So husband and wife threw the dice again asking for their own original noses to be put back on. This left them right where they were before.RegardsNeelam

In continuation of my earlier post...Please do not confuse between HAPPINESS as mentioned in my mail and PLEASURE.

The primary difference between the two attributes is that pleasure is external and happiness is internal. Pleasure is an event, while happiness is a state of mind.

This explanation is only for the beginners. I am sure learned members are aware of this.RegardsNeelam

The Translation to the Short Laghu Saraswati Stotram .

The Stotram -

Yaa Kundendu tushaara haaradhavalaa, Yaa shubhravastraavritha |Yaa veenavara dandamanditakara, Yaa shwetha padmaasana ||Yaa brahmaachyutha shankara prabhritibhir Devaisadaa Vanditha |Saa Maam Paatu Saraswatee Bhagavatee Nihshesha jaadyaapahaa||

The Translation -

May that Goddess Saraswati, who wears a garland white, like the Kunda-flower or the Moon or the snow, who is adorned with pure white clothes, whose hands are ornamented with the Veena, and the gesture of blessings, who is sacred on a white Lotus, who is always worshipped , by Brahma, Vishnu , Siva and the other Gods, who is the remover of all inertness and laziness, protect me.

( Translation by Swami Sivananda, Haridwar).
