Guest guest
Hi Patrice ... I read your letter with interest. I should have known about it, as I have and often refer to L on L, but I didn't recognize the term. I'll tke a look at your friend's chart. My daughter has Mercury, which is her asc ruler, at 29 Scorpio. She's bright and attractive but has had health problems, one of them being depression and eating problems. It's kind of an ongoing thing that we have to watch closely. She has Ketu, Sun, Moon, Uranus, and Merc all in Scorpio. I'm hoping that since her Mars (dispositor) is exalted and in the 5th house, relatively unafflicted, also Jup and Ven are angular, the positive will win out in her life. Do you have any idea as to how that would work? .... Bettina Patrice Curry [patricecurry]Thursday, May 27, 2004 8:33 PM Subject: Gandanta Hi Dear Bettina and Debra, Just about all of what I'm using here to describe Gandanta comes from Light on Life. There's a principle in Jyotish which assumes that the strength of a juncture-point, which is called "sandhi" is weakened and as they have written in Light on Life, "ill-defined due to the forced intermingling of two differing energies. A sangama (the junction of two rivers) is auspicious, because the two energies merge completely on meeting, but a sandhi (literally, a 'joint') is merely a zone of transition between two energies which retain their own individual characteristics." "While most sandhis are inauspicious for worldly matters, because the free flow of prosperity becomes obstructed at such zones of transition, they are often auspicious for certain spiritual endeavors." "The Gandanta ('End-of-the-Cheek') portions of the nakshatras form another class of sandhi which Jyotish finds inauspicious... " In this part I love this description and actual meaning referring to this part of the celestial faces and shows clearly what they really are saying about Gandanta: "Ganda means 'cheek' and/or 'the whole side of the face including the temple', which makes the Gandanta segments the 'junctures' of the celestial faces that look down upon us. Gandanta is particularly inopportune because it is a double sandhi, a juncture of two rashis as well as two nakshatras. Grahas located at these points are very weak, and indicate major problems in the natives' life unless the grahas involved are strengthened by appropriate remedies." Gandantas also can be very auspicious for spiritual things. I find using this particularly helpful in telling health related issues in a chart, when a planet is in Gandanta, it definitely shows a weakness or problem in that area, (also other indications as well) such as this case with my friend and her Moon Gandanta in Ashwini (in Aries). This Moon shows up this way for her in quite a few ways. Where the Gandantas, which indicate particularly inopportune sections, occur is at the very beginning of the fire signs and the very end of the water signs. So in the nakshatras then these portions are the last 3.20 degrees of Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati, and the first 3.20 degrees of Ashwini, Magha and Mula. Here is the data for the chart I've been referring to: 13 July 1955, 00:59, Bridgeport, Conn., Lagna and Moon both in Ashwini, so you can also check this out and yep we can study this chart Debra... I would love to hear how others would do this and keep this fresh and open so that we can learn from each other... an environment where we are free to explore learning and not worry about where we are making mistakes or are unclear. Need that to really learn, for me anyway, and these groups are meant for learning for astrologers, not so much for readings where someone can go and make contact separately for that, and be sure to get an experienced astrologer. All best wishes, Patrice ______________ Patrice, what is a Gandata Moon? .... Bettina Patrice,Is there a possibility to study this chart of this yong woman? What too ia a gandanta Moon? Are you refering to the chart from the Nakshatra stars?Debra
Guest guest
Hi Bettina, Yes, I do the same thing, I'm always finding more and more things in L on L, even though I use it all the time. I like their clarity on the meaning of the what the words that make up Gandanta actually mean. That book gives the more whole flavor when giving knowledge and stays true to the depth of Jyotish. Can you send me your daughter's birth data? If you'd like to keep it private, just send it to me at my email address and I will definitely keep it private, absolutely. Guest guest
Patrice ... I'm mulling over your friend's chart. The first thing that strikes me is that her asc ruler is in 4th in its fall, but cnj 9th ruler Jupiter in its exaltation (as well as to Uranus). Then, we have a sq from exalted Saturn to that combination. It's a kind of a giving and a taking away. Since Mars rules 1st (ang house) and Jupiter 9th (trine house) and they're cnj. on an ang, that's the ultimate in yogakaraka-ness. It seems there would be some kind of major benefits coming from the mother or her side of the family, and yet, it wouldn't be fully realized, or there would be some sort of obstacle in it manifesting, because of the S asp. All the planets in Gemini in 3rd make me picture someone who moves around a lot ... perhaps dancing (?) or some sort of sport like tennis. I think she'd be musical too. Perhaps plays piano or some other stringed instrument. Expressive. This lady is not boring. I don't mean moves from one home to another ... it's just that her body is in motion ... I think she's graceful ... there's an elegance about her and she's probably very attractive. Taller than average? At the same time, she may have trouble with her feet. Is she pretty religious? And yet at the same time, has religious doubts? Yet religion would be an issue with her. Not only is her Moon Gandanta, as you say, it's one that doesn't have a planet on either side, which is not considered good in Vedic. Also disposited by a planet in fall, and opposed by Nep and S, backward sq from Mars. But the fact that J is at an angle to it may redeem it somewhat. In her navamsa chart she has Moon with S and PL and Rahu. That's pretty heavy for the poor little Moon. Is there some depression or emotional problem? The Moon is vergottama ... which just strengthens the Moon in whatever way it is, I don't think makes it better or worse. Is this the lady with the maigraine problem? I think with afflicted Moon in 1st and nav. Moon, Saturn, PL, Rahu ALL crossing over to natal asc ... in fact, and I hadn't noticed this at first, but nav S falls SMACK on nat. asc ... there's a lot of stress and grief, whether because of an actuall loss, or a perceived loss, I don't know which. Interesting that Deb and I both have S on nat. asc and your friend has the crossover from nav S to nat asc. and we all three have migraines.
