Guest guest
Dear Kanu Namaste According to Skamdapurana on Jyshtha Shukla ekadasi one should perform JalaDhenu dana. One can get the Cow(Dhenu) prepared of any metal and should perform Shodapochar pooja of it. This Dhenu then should be given to Brahmin in Dana. Same day is considered as Nirjala Ekadashi that has a reference in Bhagawat and Sanskriti Kosha. Actually this vrata was told by Guru Vyasa to Bhima. That is why it is as well called as Bhimaseni ekadashi. Accordingly, one should get the Suvarna Murti of Vishnu and perform Shodashopachar pooja of it at night. One should feed Brahmins and give JalaKumbha, Suvarna,Chatra,Vastra, and Paduka to needy. Thanks a lot for your Time and Sapce. Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Dear Prabodh, Thankyou very much.I do have a langar organized in my colony like the last year.We basically serve sharbat with milk and water.I will try and do the puja authentically. I also want to share soemthing with the list.I had mentioned the broken Idol of Lakshmi on my grah pravesh...I thought it was a very inauspicous omen but I was given a different insight by many of you both on the list and to me on private emails. However, I have received summons from the court already and my neighbour on the ground floor has filed a case against me.The main dispute happened between the ground floor and the first floor family but he decided to include my name in it too.I think transit of Saturn [Lagna Lord] into my natal 6th house is a cause.I am also running 6th house Ad [Narayan Dasa] .My A4 falls in Cancer too.Any other comments are welcomed. Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Dear Raghu, The scriptures have given great significance to Ekadashi Vrat which happens every month.Bhima loved food and ate a lot.He found it very difficult to fast so he asked Rishi Vyas to give him a way by which he could attain the fruits and blessings of the Ekadashi vrat but not fast every month.Rishi Vyas then told him that the Shukla Ekadashi in the month of Jyeshtha will be one which if observed will give him fruits of all the ekadashi vrats in one full year.On this day a severe fast has to be done. Not even water is consumed from Sunrise to Sunrise. So the native has to remain nir jal from the Sunrise of Ekadashi to the Sunrise of Dwadashi.Water is offered to the Sun on dwadashi and only after that one can drink water and eat.Donations etc are made as explained by Prabodh.Sanjay has written about the other details. Guest guest
SARVAM GYANANANDAMAYAM AUM GURUBYO NAMAH Dear Prabhod, Place a dara-patra(a vessel which allows water to pass through by way of drops continuously)atop a Sivalinga. Invoke the Lord Triyambakeswara in the Linga. Chant the mantra " OM NAMA SIVAAYA NAMO TRIYAMBAKESWARAYA " if not throughout the duration of thithi, atleast till the enite vessel is emptied of water poured into it. This will help in changing the direction of Mars placed under the domain of agni as per asta dala kala chakra. Nirjala ekadashi can restore agni in the hands of Venus(fire fighter) and the jataragni can be converted into bhoota agni. Best wishes. Astrologically & spiritually yours, p.s.ramanarayanan. --- Prabodh Vekhande <amolmandar wrote: Dear Kanu Namaste According to Skamdapurana on Jyshtha Shukla ekadasi one should perform JalaDhenu dana. Guest guest
Nirjala Ekadashi- Today is Nirjala Ekadashi. As name suggests, not a Ekadashi with one time food , but a Ekadashi minus even drinking water. This comes in Jyeshta Masa,in Shukla Paksha. In other Ekadashis one may eat fruits, but here not even water is allowed. This Ekadashi Vrata is performed in Grishma ritu with utmost Kashta and tapasya, hence the importance of this ekadashi is foremost. As per Mahabharata if one cannot perform the 26 Ekadashis annually (Including adhika masa),then performing this one, can give one, all the benefic desired results of others too. This Vrata is one by keeping oneself away even from having a drop of water, till the next morning, i.e.Dwadashi, and after performing ordained rituals and donations , one can then take partake food the next morning. Katha - Bhimsen was the most strongest Pandava physically in strength. In his stomache, he had 'Vraka' named Agni (Fire), that is why he is also named as Vrakodar. He was by birth strong too, but when he had gone to nagaloka, and partaken rasa (Liquid) from 10 kunds, he derived strength of 10000 elephants. Because of drinking this Rasa, the digestive powers of Bhim became stronger, and so was his hunger. The Pandavas and Draupadi used to perform vrata of all ekadashis regularly, but for Bhim doing these Vratas was terrible strain due to his great hunger, so Vyasji adviced him to perform this Ekadashi occurring on Jyeshta Masa Shukla Paksha, and said that due to performance of same, he would derive benefits of all the Ekadashis done annually, with this single Ekadashi. On instruction of Vyasji , Bhim did the Vrata on this day, and consequently, this Ekadashi came to be known as " Bhimsen Ekadashi " . N.B. I have translated the above from the monthly magazine " Kalyan " , Gita press,Gorakhpur. Those who have not d to this magazine should immediately do so, because the information in this , is not available anywhere and does not cost much too. What we pay for monthly newspaper, we spend same amount on annual subscription for this great Magazine. I know hundreds of people who do Ekadashi, but I know at least 3 people who perform Nirjala Ekadashi, the way it is supposed to be performed. This is to just denote, that people are there today, who still follow the Shastras and believe in them. regards, Bhaskar.

Guest guest
Dear Swaminathanji, The division into months by position of the Sun are as under - Sun in Sign /Name of Indian months/English months. Aries- Vaisakha - April-May Taurus - Jyeshta - May-June Gemini - Aslesha - June-July Cancer - Shravan - July-August Leo - Bhadra - August-Sept Virgo- Ashwin - Sept-October Libra - Kartika - Oct-November Scorpio- Agrahayana -Nov-Dec Sagittarius - Pausa - Dec-Jan Capricorn - Magha- Jan-Feb Aquarius- Phalguna- Feb-March Pisces - Chaitra- March-April Why are names of 2 English months given together and not one single English month ? Answer- Because Sun enters a sign normally on the mid (15th or 16th) of every month and remains in that sign till the mid of next month, hence we have to write two months names for English months, whereas for Hindu months., it is not like that. The names of the Indian months originated from the names of Nakshatra where Purnima (Full Moon) takes place. Due to elliptical orbit, Purnima does not take place in the same position or at the same Nakshatra every year. For instance,Chandra in Purnima in the month of Agrahayana, maybe in Ardra or in Mrgasira, so the month of Agrahayana, has another name, Margashirsha. regards, Bhaskar. , swaminathan kalyanaraman <kaldkpl wrote: > > Dear Bhaskar Sahib, > Can you name all the twelve months because you have mentioned this month as JYESHTA.
