The Tropical Zodiac determines one's " sign " by the sun's distance from the Northern Hemisphere's Vernal Equinox point when the person was born. For example, if you're born on or no more than thirty days after the Vernal Equinox, you're an Aries. The Sidereal Zodiac instead uses the constellation the sun was in at the birthtime. The difference between the two zodiacs comes from the fact that the Equinox points move backward through the zodiacal constellations. When Ptolemy invented the Tropical Zodiac, the Northern Hemisphere's Vernal Equinox point was at 0*0'0 " Sidereal Aries. But, unfortunately for Ptolemy, it kept moving, and now it's in Pisces -- hence the term " Age of Pisces " . Ptolemy also didn't know about the Southern hemisphere -- and would have looked at you as if you were stupid if you could go back in time and tell him about it. This brings me to another one of my objections to the Tropical Zodiac -- why doesn't it recognize the different seasons on either side of the equator? If a person born on December 25th north of the equator is a Capricorn because they were born in early winter, shouldn't someone born in Australia on 12/25 be a Cancer? A child who was born today is a Sagittarius, according to the Tropical zodiac. But that child's sun was close to the longitude of Antares, the bright red star in Scorpio. So, to us Siderealists, the kid's a Scorpio. In two thousand years or so, a child born on today's date won't have a sun near Antares, but to the Tropicalists, the sun will always be in the sign of Sagittarius in late November. >I am an Aries sun sign > and fairly true to it, so does this mean that this is different somehow? Any > simple explanations would be greatly appreciated........) 1) You may be Aries according to both zodiacs -- someone who's Tropical Sun is 25* or more in that sign is 0*-5* in the Sidereal constellation. 2) You may have a strong Sun-Mars aspect. 3) You may have an angular Mars. 4) Your Mars may act on your Sun-Moon midpoint. > Hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving. Guest guest
Hello from a new member:} i've joined from reading Mark's post on the YoungAstro list. I've been self-studying Astrology fairly intensively for about 2.5 years which i know makes me just about a rank newbie. Now i'm in the midst of an online course which i'm really enjoying. I know less than nothing about Jyotish but i have such a voracious hunger to learn Astrology, all kinds..Mark, is there a free download program you can recommend using Jyotish, or a site where i can have my chart made? i'm familiar with a lot of the possibilities for Western Tropical, of course, but not Jyotish. Thanks! Rev. Owl ps: after writing this, i looked over my Canopus program and discovered that it will make quite a few types of sidereal charts, incl Nakshatras. So that now puts me in the position of being able to see the chart, but still not understand {pulling hair:} i guess i must be in this group for a reason!:} ---- "What you bring forth out of yourself from the inside will save you. I have been a student of various occult traditions for over twenty years now. I look forward to learning a great deal here. Thank you for allowing me to participate in this forum. Hello Welcome to the sidereal list! Guest guest
Dear Mr. Sherry, You expect to know what is astrology. Well this is fundmaentle question. Since long ago say about more thant 1000's of years humn being is trying to understand about human life? and how it can be made utmost happy? but while actual observations were made it was understood that none of person is eqully happy. In fact many were found in extreme sorrow and lots of people were enjoing life at their own discrete. How ever upon continuous studies some of the people who were dedicated to understand society life they were puzzelled upon reading such unertinty. As result they tried study why there are so much of difference in person to person life? While studing they tried to understand or rather tried to evaluate resons and results of the human activities. all such grate people are now called as " RISHIS " . Bsically they are, Jaimitny, Parashar, varahmihir, Sefarial, Hillah etc. Upon sufficiant efforts made they successfylly esablished co-relations between planatery palcement in sky and effect of those on human being on earth. Now I would state that the planetory placements in sky are simply parametere for reading individual's life. Basicaly they won't do direct effect on huma life but they indicate what, how and when the native will enjoy life? or when shall he face disasters? This is similar to that like mercury in thermometer. When you say that you feel feverish, the MERCURY only indicates the temperature in your body. It is not a result of applying thermometere in your body. Feeling feverish is a result of your anti-health dids. And now so as to go for advanein this study whatever developments are taken place is known as astrology. So as to be as sharp reading as possible charts and houses concluded. If you really want to study this scince you have to first heve concrete concept to read/study human life thry the beetering point of view not only from earning point of view. Now a days there are so many branches developed and new concepts too are developed for acheiving accuray in predictions. Earning money is byproduct of this study. Hope hat you are satified by this answer. If not don't hasitate in writing again. SANT GURUJI --- Sherry Bakko <sbakko wrote: > I just joined the list to learn more about what > JYOTISH is exactly. Guest guest
Hello Sherry, A warm Welcome to the List. The Jyotish or a Astrologer is a person who knows how to study the configuration of the planets (the Map of the skies above) at the birth moment of any person, and be able to apply his studies to the human affairs to be faced by the native in his course of life ahead. This same Jyotish or Astrologer in English parlance, can also be asked a question in absence of the birth chart, and again the jyotish would do the same method, ie.to check the planetary configurations at the moment the query is replied, and state the results to the querist. This is known as Horary astrology. The normal person cannot do anything with the planets, except make it more favourable by listening to advice of astrologer, or make it more inimcal in result giving, by not paying heed to good advice from good astrologer. And Do not worry about what is a right question or wrong.None of us are authorised to be judgemental about the same. Whoever of us who may be good in our respective fields have become good, only by asking questions. So keep comng back. And thank You for joining the list. regards, Bhaskar. , " Sherry Bakko " <sbakko wrote: > > I just joined the list to learn more about what JYOTISH is exactly.
