HOLI CELEBRATIONS IN INDIA Holi is one of the major festivals of India and is celebrated in most of the states of India. However, each region has its own

variations of Holi with a large local influence. Let's take a look at how Holi is celebrated in different states and regions of India:North India: Lord Krishna spent most of his childhood in Mathura and Vrindavana. He was the one to introduce the modern form of Holi and thus Holi is celebrated with great enthusiasm at these places for about a week. Situated in Uttar Pradesh, all the major temples of the region dedicated to Krishna and Radha celebrate Holi on a different day. In these parts celebrating Holi means getting drenched with colored water during these celebrations is considered to be a blessing from god and is considered auspicious. Since Radha belonged to Barsana while Krishna belonged to Nandagaon, on the day of Holi, men from Nandagaon go to Barsana to celebrate Holi with the women there. The playful teasing of women and attempts to color them with 'gulal' and wet colors from 'pichkari' is returned by them by attempts to escape and beating

the men with sticks to scamper them away. Haryana: In Haryana, the brides of the Hindu undivided families hang a pot of buttermilk high up in the streets as a challenge to their brother-in-laws, who try to get ot break the pot by forming a human pyramid to reach it. Women try to stop them by beating them with their saris rolled up as ropes. This mock-drama is staged to commemorate the playful pranks of child Krishna, who would steal milk, butter and curd from the cow maids' houses. In the evening, the brother-in-laws bring sweetmeats for the women of the house for their contribution in keeping the family united. Western India: Like Haryana, Maharashtra and Gujarat also has mock-drama of Krishna trying to break the pots and steal the butter. Besides, the men of these states take out a grand procession while soaked with colored water as they walk through the streets to make a mock alert call to ask people and women of the house to take

care of their pots of butter and milk as Krishna may come in and steal them. Eastern India: In Bengal, Holi is called Dol Yatra (the Swing Festival) in which idols of Krishna and Radha are placed on swings and devotees take turns to swing them. Women perform devotional songs and dances around the swing as men spray colored water and 'Abeer' (colored powder) on them. However, the tradition is being lost in the modern wave and people play with colored water and powders in the morning and then take out processions on the streets with music and drums while stained with Holi colors. Orissa has similar traditions as Bengal except for the fact that the idols of Jagannath is placed on the swing here instead of Krishna and Radha, who is believed to be another

form of Krishna. Rabindranath Tagore, the Noble laureate from India, revived Holi as the Spring festival by introducing 'Vasanta Utsav' in his Shantiniketan or Bishwabharati University, which is celebrated in a very special way. Students and youths dress up in bright colorful dresses such as yellow and stage a number of cultural programs involving group choreography, songs and dance followed by playing Holi with 'Abeer' (colored powder). Today, Vasanta Utsav has become an important part of the Bengali culture.North East: Holi is a six-day long in Manipur and commences on the full moon day of Phalguna. In the 18th century, it merged with the traditional and centuries-old Yaosang festival of Manipur. In earlier times, there were folk songs and dance performances under the moonlight accompanied by the indigenous drums. Today, modern musical instruments have replaced the drums and fluorescent lamps have replaced the moonlight. Days before, people

collect money from the community for the expenses on the festivities. A thatched hut of hay, twigs and sticks is built, only to be set ablaze. Next morning, groups of boys go to play 'gulal' with the girls and pay them money to get the favor. Devotees play 'gulal', sing devotional songs and dance in front of the Krishna temple dressed in the traditional white and yellow turban. On the last day of the festival, a grand procession is taken out to the main Krishna temple in the capital of Manipur, Imphal where multitude of cultural programs take place. // am here to facilitate and engender peace, love, ending violence

among people//

I was wondering about the English language how just one small change

and insertion of one small word ,could change the meaning of the

whole above sentence.

Rewritten-

" am here to faclitate and endanger peace, love, ending in

violence amomng people " .

Dear Underwater Your photos are good, your best wishes fo the Holy

festival of Holi is good, but do not mix this with Jesus Christ.

If You wish You may have a seperate post on Him. I too love Jesus

Christ by the way, but not into eulogizing out of context.

I am connected with the Church for last 40 years, not by visiting

there regularly (Which I never do), but studied in Roman Catholic

school, my son also passed from same school - Don Bosco High school,

so He remains in our heart and I never forget him, in fact I have a

photo of Jesus Christ in my personal Pooja room, where two times in

the day, incense and worship is done.

But here when You bring Him in while addressing the Indians and Holi

festival, as a saviour, it may create and arouse commotion in the

feelings of some very strictly religious members over here,

who may not be so liberal as I, so better not....

I have in mind beautiful posts on Christianity for you and me, which

I will put on later, after few months which would be eye-openers with

real incidents and experiences realted to Christ, and these would

create more love in our hearts for the Great Son of God.

as of now, thanks for the beautiful photos.

regards,

Bhaskar.

Dear Bhaskarji, Underwater and all the members of Jyotish Ganga and

all who believe in the Consciousness of Being and Mankind..Here is

what the Thoughts tell:

Holi falls during this part of the calender year marking events

which signify a lot of truths about who we all are and to

whom we belong...therefore the reference to Christ and to Krishna and

to our dear beloved Saibaba of Shiridi and Parthy both of whom

personify and glorify in thought word and deed the essence of THIS

CONSCIOUSNESS.

The festival of Holi as it is celebrated now owes its origin To our

dear Lord Krishna who was,is and will be for all times the eptiome of

this Consciousness...symbolizing and making evident the immense

potential and very gigantic energy which is the fulcrum and the

beginning of all creation and what we know as Consciousness, this

Awareness realization and complete BEINGNESS is what is the basis of

WHO we are..or in the present tense...IS

It is this REALIZATION OF CONSCIOUSNESS and the presence of it in

HIM which made Jesus of Nazareth , Lord and Master Jesus Christ on

the 27th of March...This period therefore is of tremendous

significance because Jesus of Nazareth from the East sought to make

the other part of the world know the significance of WHO WE ARE AND

WHITHER WE ARE FROM...leading to many events which exemplified and

glorified the attributes of Parabrahma and SUPREME CONSCIOUSNESS,

whom we call by different names to suit our own thought predilections

and processes..

Lord Krishna of Brindavan whose name is phonetically so similar to

Christ, without the t sound at the end...can be attributed to the non

recognition and cognition of the sanskrit word krishna..and

misspelling and giving it the English variant of Christ...because of

the following:

During the time of Lord Jesus of Nazareth who came to be Lord Jesus

Christ on the 27th of March when he realized His True Beingness and

His Calling...

There was no written records nor any authentic writings which

elucidate the presence of such a person...we have stories handed down

word of mouth and from these we knew of the existence of such an

exalted soul...It was much later that an attempt was made and words

penned to narrate and account the complete history of Jesus of

Nazareth and all that he acheived in His lifetime...

This is something that can be authenticated and verified from the

internet, which is how i got the information . This was amply

justified and authenticated by my mother who studied in anglosaxon

schools Presentation Convent and later in Womens Christian College

Madras, my father and four generations of his family men and boys

where from Loyala College and educated in anglosaxon schools...in

Chennai...

My mother was given as a prize a book on Christ for standing first

in scriptures which was a compulsory subject..which i have read and

re-read innumerable times...it is in a library in Tilonia SWRC in

Rajasthan, now... She topped in scriptures in the finals too but was

denied the prize because a christian with 20% less was given it for

her effort increasing everybody's marks across the board...amma is

now left her body and assumed her original self...but such happenings

which are not erstwhile stories do not easily get erased...

Now am an orthodox russian christian and know and can answer

questions for anyone who so desires..please take the time and check

it out on the internet and have the grace and the love for the

consciousness who you are and be one with the family. All the

divisions and the parcelling out to various locations called

countries is to make it easy for the innumerable souls to make the

grade as they have desired and made possible for themselves. They

choose and get a body after a long wait which is called Bodo Time ,

making this life a precious gift , to enable each and everyone of us,

to purify ourselves and make us worthy of being a part and one of

this CONSCIOUSNESS of which THE SUPREME CONSCIOUSNESS is with us now

IN PARTHY AND BEFORE IN SHIRDI which is not far or distant but within

the ambit of the memory which can be availed of by all who really

want to...

Please celebrate and make this day a really Holy day by being and

accepting the oneness and the filial bondages which makes us all a

happy family of THE SUPREME CONSCIOUSNESS

HAPPY HOLY TO ALL OF YOU

yours-n-consciousness
