Guest guest
My ex-wife ( I traded her in for a newer model.) Actually, she left me, but that is not my favorite version of that story. ) Anyway, she was, and is a gentle soul, a mystic ( of the new age version.) She now makes money with Chinese medicine, and astrology. She even has her a own astrology program on a Spanish TV channel. Since she was a Catholic when I married her, and I introduced to the mystic traditions, of the Orient. I feel responsible for all the bullshit she now preaches to the gullible. One day we were discussing spiritually in our living room when she saw an odd looking small bug crawling by her foot. without stopping her dissertation, she lifted her foot and crushed the insect. " Why did you kill that bug? " " It was ugly! " " So? " " I don't want ugly bugs crawling on my floor. " " Would you kill an ugly mouse? " She thought for a moment and then said, " Maybe. " " How about an ugly cat? " " No, of course not! I won't kill a large animal. " There was a certain absentminded quality to her killing. It was sheer human arrogance. As if we find natural to kill what's not like us. As the resemblance to us increases, so does the grievousness of the act. To kill a human being who is a member of our society, is " mala per se " (wrong in itself) in any society. Not only it is mala per se (a sin,) but mala per res ( a criminal act under the law.) The hideousness of the act, increases with killing a sibling, a parent, or an offspring. And then, it abruptly stops. To kill yourself is not a criminal act, or even considered a sin in every human society. I will leave you to do your own pondering on this subject, if you feel so inclined.
