Guest guest
The Final Liberation is liberation from the bondage of self, or the ego, in which all personal bondage is tied. This bondage of self can be seen as an addiction to the self-concept. It is this " self- centered " conditioning that is the cause and effect of all limiting conditions. In this context we can use the 12 Step model as a way to accept and address that the concepts which we hold of our self are actually just conceptual representations in the mind that we've accumulated through experience and held in memory, that we have become habituated to think of as self through conditioning and education, and not actually self at all. The self-defining of " me " as thought is the inebriating, self-gratification process which makes up sustains the conditioning that is the apparent ego. This notion of self is merely a series of interdependent concepts that we've become addicted to believing ourselves to be(or wrapped ourself up in). These concepts have no existence outside of interdependency. We are powerless to change this pseudo-identity because at it's core it is empty and fixing and controlling it is part and parcel of the system that defends or justifies an imagined separate existence. By believing that we are what we think, simultaneously and subsequently, everything else is believed to be what we think. All our thoughts then are based in original mis- perception which lacks any inherent existence and therefore any ability to perceive anything! Since we are dealing from a misconception there is no way to do anything about it without additional reconceptualization, thereby enhancing the very bondage that we are trying to overcome. In this humbling realization, which entails the admission, acceptance and surrender to our own fraudulence, an understanding can dawn. In this moment of confrontation with the reality of the falsity of our thinking, vision is engendered that releases us momentarily from self- conceptualization. It is understood that rather than working on, improving, controlling or fixing the self-concept, only realization can be the way to final liberation. ** EJ Shearn

It's not so much that they can't understand, but rather it's a " refusal " . And their " refusal " is played out as the story of their life.
