Guest guest
<< What suchness is, certainly, can't [not] be put in words, but the mere fact we are discussing it here is an indication that some people get an inkling of it. >> (I think you want to omit the " not " in 's ) I am saying that " suchness " is not really a reference. Indeed, I think it is a very misleading term. Dan wrote: " The rest is ... this unspeakable suchness... " He was writing in the present tense. I would be quite different if he were writing: " Last night I was experiencing an unspeakable suchness. " That would be absurd. It would also be absurd to say: " Right now I am experiencing an unspeakable suchness. " He statement is " poetic " , not denotative. His statement is not descriptive. Only someone who knows " whereof " he speaks could have any inkling of what he means. And even then, merely an inkling. The statement that Dan made is of the type that can only truly be made as " words arising " , i.e. the words simply " float forth " and come to rest on the page/screen. In the context of your remarks, there really is no *discussion* of " suchness " per se. The word " suchness " appeared in Dan's text. That is all. It is enigmatic. A mysterious symbol. As I said, nothing *denotative* is happening at all with respect to the term " suchness " . -Bill - " seesaw1us " <seesaw1us <Nisargadatta > Wednesday, January 21, 2004 8:29 AM Re: What I Would Like to Say to You, Part II > > > > > > The rest is .... this unspeakable suchness ... > > and even this... misleading isn't it? > > those words can imply that " suchness " has a savor... > > that one can " experience " it... > > > > no such thing as experiencing suchness... > > > > it really is... as you say... > > unspeakable. > > > > Bill > > Hi Bill, > > P: Let's see If we can clarify the above a bit. > Can we even mention something no one has ever experienced? > So when it's said " no such thing as experiencing suchness " > aren't we really only saying 'no such thing as knowing suchness' > without excluding that some apperception, some derivate sense of > suchnes could be reflected in consciousness?
