Yes, that about sums it up, Kim. Yet, we must, of course, remember, that this was written before the invention of Quaker Instant Oats, which product makes oatmeal come to be in less than one minute! And you're right -- oatmeal doesn't cease to be, it just gets processed through the stomach and intestines.
