Guest guest
Havn't said much in here before, but have become very curious about the Gunas of late. I am aware of most common undertandings of what each Guna is/precipipates, but am curious as to what they actually are. I understand that they are " strands " so to speak, but what is being stranded, and to what, and by whom? I once saw a picture in which the the 3 Gunas were depicted as female " goddeses' for lack of better word...pulling marionette like strings attached to Man. That image is intriguing...meaning who is directing the Gunas, and I suppose, whether we sould respect them, or repel them. thanks Michael

All that is manifest is conditioned. The conditions are tendencies relating to motion: active/rajas, inactive/tamas, and balanced/satvic. I relate them to the yi-yang with satvic being the balancing between the neg-pos. The Self is beyond and therefore not influenced. An interesting note is that the hindu generally believes the satvic to be the " good " the rajas or outward and energetic to be neutral and tamas or innert to be negative or bad, whereas I tend to want to label the good as opposite from the bad and the satvic to be the neutral. Like a crowded street, our goal should not be hindered with bumping into concepts or people but seeing them as not I,... neti, neti. ))))))Shawn
