Guest guest
Hi karta, Thanks for your reply. My take on free will, like about every thing else, is pragmatic. Before I act, or speak I have all the free will in the world. The moment I act, I have none. It's as if, retroactively i have been robbed of my free will, and discovered i hadn't any to begging with. This places a duty on me to act and speak responsibly, but frees me from remorse. This is something like a test an all powerful crazy dictator could use on one of his minister he suspecting of plotting against him. He would call him to his office and said, " I know you have been plotting to kill me. " " No, my leader I'd rather kill myself than you. " " Ok, prove it. Here is a pistol, kill yourself, right now. If you don't, the guards outside my door will kill you. If you kill me, they will kill you too. Your only choice is to prove your guilt or innocent by your death and so to spare the lives of your family. " Now, this guy only choice is regard to his intention because he thinks the dictator gave him an unloaded pistol. But he can't never be sure. The dictator might be gambling too, that that is what his minister thinks. So the gun might after all be loaded. So it's your intentions and sense of responsibility which are always being tested. It's your responsibility to act your best, even if it's all play acting.
