Guest guest
Dear Cathy, I live near Seattle, Washington. 13 hours of tapes, WOW!!! This could make history :-). Whatever your plans for them would be, either totally nonprofit or otherwise, to be able to share those with people... I don't think it's ever been done before (or not that I'm aware). Here's an idea... if you do have software to digitize the tapes, the best way would probably be .MP3 format, at a very high bitrate (256k or so). If you could do that, and put them up somewhere on the Internet (an FTP site, a website, or even on Napster (!)), I could download the MP3 files, clean them up, and get them back to you through a similar method. I have a CD burner and a fast cable modem connection. That way you wouldn't have to part with the tapes. An alternate idea would be to digitize the tapes, burn the digital copies in whatever format (.WAV or anything, even audio CD) onto CD- recordables, and mail them to me (preferably without the jewel cases, they're pretty unbreakable)... then I could clean them up, re-burn onto CD-recordables and mail them back to you. Finally, a 'worst case' method would be to make copies of the tapes using a dual-cassette deck (or tape deck, whatever format they're in), and send me the copies -- I could digitize and return the copies if you wished them back. Let me know if these ideas sound interesting. Again, it would be a real privilege.
