I would like to support the spirit of these questions by forming at least four discussion groups: 1) Jews can ask what they did to cause the Germans to create the Holocaust and what they are now doing to make the Arabs hate them so 2) Raped women can ask what they did to incite the rapists 3) The victims of Jeffrey Daumer can ask what they did to make him so angry 4) Abused chidren can ask themselves why they're so bad that mommy and daddy hate them so 5) Those who are offended by my satire can ask themselves what they've done to deserve my response This blaming others has got to stop!!! It is not empirically true that there is a " universal human tendency to blame others for whatever ills have befallen us " . The tendency is to blame the less powerful, but if those who harm us are more powerful than we are, then we appease them by blaming ourselves. Thus, abused children blame themselves, not their parents. Adults harmed by acts of God blame their own sinfulness rather than rage against the Almighty. Ineffectual intellectuals are more cunning. They disingenuously seem to blame themselves by saying, " What has America done to engender such hatred and wrath? " , when they are really saying, " What have those Americans with whom I politically disagree done to engender such hatred and wrath? Blaming is a primitive attempt to explain, to determine causality. We revert to what is primitive when what is more complex isn't working for us, and we're out of resources. The mind can't comprehend, can't take it in, can't explain it. It is the end of the mind, yet thinking does not need to stop.
