Guest guest
Let's build a cage. The infant has their rattle. Mommy and daddy praise it so nicely when it becomes potty trained instead of letting it fall where it will. Oh look dear the baby can say Mommy and Daddy. We mustn't allow it to cry you know. Thus starts the cage bit by bit. The child has their toys. See the pretty flowers. Look at that bad animal. Do this. Don't ever do that. The cage is growing little by little. Be a good little girl or boy. The adolescent has more complex toys. Study hard and you'll make lots of money. The scriptures say do this and don't do that. Lying, cheating and stealing may get you very far. Fairness and goodness are for the schmucks. The cage continues building. Spiritual places are a where you make good contacts. The adult has mind toys. Boy when I get married things will really be great. When we get that house that's all we'll ever need. Wow that's a super philosophy. I'm going to get myself realized -- that's my goal. Let's see, if I flow chart realization step by step I should be able to make it in a few months. I'll drive myself to do it. The cage has solidified. I'm now living in my cage world view. Hey this is the way things really are. This is a lovely cage -- it feels so good. Your cage is not very nice and certainly not useful. It would take a demolition expert to demolish that cage. So this is where we start our spiritual path locked firmly within our cage. It sure is tough getting out of this cage using the intellect because that's what helped build the cage. We are simply blind to all outside our cage world view. Sort of paraphrasing the words of Chogyam Trungpa. Better not to start a spiritual path because once started there's no turning back. It ain't easy necessarily. It ain't necessarily so. Why would anyone wish to get out of their cage? I suppose to uncover who they truly are and live in their full potential. Victor
Guest guest
Ah yes, the old cage. I know it all too well. Sometimes I think it's much less sturdy than it looks. It seems to dissolve if you look at it steadily. But it takes a long time and it's easy to think nothing's happening and then you give up. > Be a good little girl or boy. The self-critical voice was the first part that began to dissolve for me. The most intransigent part, for me, seems to be the one that looks ahead to plan for the future. > Why would anyone wish to get out of their cage? To find out why people who get out say, " Holy shit, I was never really in!
