a) Ksheera vrata Arambham.

This day one should offer Curds rice to God and later do danam.

Afterwards to perform

sankalpa for Kheeera Vrata.

Mantra:

Kheera Vrata midham Deva

GrihithaM purathastava|

NiRvignaM Siddhimaayaathu

Prasaadhaaththe Ramaapathe.||

One should not offer Milk and milk products to God as Naividya

and must not consume also. Must observe

Vrata till Aashveeja Shudhdha Dashami

Sri Madhwa Charya based on Sruthi, expounded Sri VishNu’s SaRvoththamathwa which means He is the controller of

everything in this universe. He is

everywhere inside the universe and outside of it. How is it possible to

be inside as well as outside?

Sruthi vakya is “ Anoraneeya Mahatho

Maheemana”.

It means smaller than the atom (Smallest) but at the same time

bigger than the biggest in the Universe.

He is present in the living and in the

non-living as well since He can

be an atom or be gigantic and activate

everything.

He makes the wind blow, He makes the sun shine, He makes

the water gurgle while flowing and He

makes us enjoy with our senses. If this is

not the

hidden meaning of His being Vaamana, the dwarf and Trivikrama,

the gigantic what else could be? Hence

our Acharya has taken this concept of the

immanence of Brahman as the most cardinal tenet of his sidhdhantha,

Let Sri Vaamana, whose Jayanthi

is to- day protect and bestow His Grace.

c) Sri Prasanna Venkatadasara Punya Dina

(Badami)

Born in 1680 AD(according

to Dr A T Patil ) at Bagalkot of Bijapur District and lived for 72 years. He

was called Kakandaki Venkappayya

Though uneducated, he had great devotion for Lord Srinivasa of

Tirumala.

Based on an incident, Venkappayya becomes a great Haridasa.

Venkappayya asked his sister in law for

a cup of buttermilk, as he felt thirsty after

hard work. His sister in law

refuses to give.

In front of him, she

choose to pour the butter milk to the

vessel of the cow informing that by so doing the Cow may yield more milk, than giving to a

dull-headed cowherd.

He joins a party going to Tirupathi . His association with

religious people and worshipping the Lord attains “Sakshaathkhara “.

By the grace of Lord

Srinivas, he was enlightened and obtained the Ankita “ PrasanVenkata”.

In fact Lord Srinivasa wrote

“ Prasanvenkata” on his tongue

when he was having Darshan. With this Ankitha, he composed a number of krithis, songs, Sulaadhis and he translated the

Bhagavatha Dashamaskanda into Kannada in

the form of songs.. Srinivasa

gave him with his Sridevi- Bhoodevi prathimaaroopa and a Gopala Butti.

Lord Krishna danced to his song “ Kartha Krishnaiay nee barayya “ He spent his last days at Badami.

His song

Chanchalisadhiru Neenu

Chathuranaagu Innu |

Vanchisadhe Sakalava

nnoppisu Harige Manve ||

This poem is very famous for neethi Marga speaking about the

conditions of “mind” He says that one

should attain vairagya in Vishaya PadhaaRtha and always concentrate in body

and mind on Paramaathma.

On this ekadashi day Srinivasa gave him Darshan in the form of

Balakrishna and engrossed

seeing the Paramathma’s Roopa he

sang .” Daro Nee Chinna Daro”.

That was the last song he composed .He

attained Vaikunta in 1752 AD.

At Bagalkot facing the east direction., there is a mantapam in

the house.

In that shelf they have

kept the idols, GopaLa butti, given by Lord Srinivasa.

The idol of Balakrishna who danced

to his song Kartha Krishnaiyya could

also be seen. - The stick, the Sangli Tambura used by him are all kept. The

devotees could see them even now.

His ugabhoga on Nava

Bhakti is simple, lucid and appealing. His works include, Shatcharana

Padhya maala, Naradha Koravanji, NarayaNa panjara, Bramara Geetha, Gopi

Geetha ,Sathya Bhama Vilaasa,

PoorvaaRdha Dashama Skandha

Bhagavatha.and many songs in simple

Kannada. Some of them on Lord

Balakrishna meant for tiny tots also.

The Mysore University Adhyana Samsthe has brought

Two Books containing his life History and compositions and second

one on his Bhagawata. There is another

treatise by Sri Krishna Kolhara on him.

If I am correct the TTD publications have brought a book ‘

Srinivasana HaDugaLu’ containing compositions of Sri Prasanna VenkaTa dasaru

with commentaries on each song. Worth

Reading.

I have produced a Musical feature on him from AIR Madras in

Kannada sung by one of the top ranking Musician of Chennai, Smt S.Soumya

All his compositions are Melodious, haunting with

Bhakti BhAva.
