My dear friends and like minded persons

Reg: The Great Sages of India -SeriesNo.6-Sage Mareechi

Probably with this I may stop writing on this subject, for the time being. It

is surely my desire to share all pleasantness in knowing and understanding the

great people of India who lived and sacrificed everything for the well being of

the society with a strong historical and purposeful base. For those who still

have doubts about the sages, I refer to a recent Great Sage who was treated as

“Walking Lord” – His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra

Saraswathi – Paramaacharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. Most of people like me,

found ourselves to be fortunate to live on the Holy land when “Walking Lord” was

physically present. For those who are interested to take blessings of sages,

India is a perennial spring or ever lasting Golden bowl- a golden bowl for ever,

only thing is that we have our mind set towards such a Holy goal.

As written in the past, from the nine parts of the body of Brahma, nine people

are born and one among them is Mareechi. Sometime later, Kardama Prajapathi and

his wife Devahooti gave birth to nine daughters and another great sage named as

Kapila. At the time of birth of this great sage, Brahma along with Naarada,

Sanaka, and Sanandana blessed Kardama Prajapathi and Devahooti. At the

instruction of the Lords, all the nine daughters were given to the nine Brahmas

and the first daughter Kala to Mareechi; Anasooya to Atri; Sradha to Angeerasa;

Havirbhavu to Pulasthya; Gati to Pulahoo; Griya to Kratu; Khyathi to Bhrigu;

Arundhati to Vasista; Saanthi to Adharvu.

Over a period of time, Kala – wife of Mareechi requested her husband for a son

worthy of worshipping by the world and accordingly she gave birth to a great

sage by name Kasyapa. Kasyapa married the daughter of Daksha Prajapathi. Kala

and Mareechi later gave birth to a girl in the name of Poornima. Poornima gave

birth to a daughter in the name of Deva Kulya and a son in the name of Viraja.

Thus Kala and Mareechi helped Lord Brahma in creating further generations.

Mareechi is a great sage; economist; philosopher; guide for the Pithru Karmaas

and his works are known as Mareechi Smruthi. Discharge of debts to Lords,

Masters, and parents called as “Deva Rishi Pithru Tarpanam” is his creations.

Aparaarkam, Smruthi Chandrika is some of his works. Bhogyam, Gopyam, Pratyayam,

Aajaanaadhi are the four parts of Mareechi Smruthi. Most unfortunately some of

these works could not be preserved by the countrymen, for many reasons, of

course. But Ahnika, Ashowcha, Sraadha, Prayaschita are his directions and most

of us are still following the same procedure in many parts of the country.

A few years ago, when I met a sage in Himalayan ranges while on my journey

along with my associates, and our experiences with him were shared with you all

on the same day through this mailing system under the caption “WHO SAID INDIA IS

POOR?” My experience and interactions with such great people confirm that WE

can never be treated as POOR, and of course, it is a fact, each of us should try

to find out and respect the “Traditional Richness” of ours and of our country.

Some such great people are also there in other parts of the Globe. Only

economic factor can not decide whether a country is Poor or such. Traditional

values too count much beyond religious boundaries. India is undoubtedly a

country with a historical and traditional background seeking Global Peace and

peaceful coexistence while opening doors for medicinal theories, mathematics,

economics and what not. If possible I will write on Sage Mudgla soon.

I shall be back again soon with the history of a great sage of India. Yours

affly HARA HARA MAHADEVA DR P V SESHA SAI ASWAMEDHAYAAJI
