13.OM chitrAyai namaH

 

- sarvabhUteshhu chidrUpeNa bhAsamAna, tasmAt chitrA,

bhAsamAnasvarUpiNI ityarthhaH.

 

She resides as the self effulgent consciousness in all living

beings, hence she is chitrA.

 

yA devI sarvabhUteshhu chetanetyabhidhIyate |

namastasyai namastasyai namastasyai namo namaH || 17\-19||

 

Salutations again and again to the Devi who abides in all beings

as consciousness.

 

The only thing that does not need a pramANa.m (means of knowledge)

is the awareness that 'I exist'. Every other pramANa like

pratyaksha, anumAnA or even shruti works as a means of knowledge

only with my self awareness. vedAnta shastra uses shruti pramANa

(scriptures) to dissuade the erroneous notion that the self

awareness is limited.
