Guest guest
Narasimhaji, I do a daily homam in the morning before leaving for work but sometimes due to time constraints it is not possible and in that case I come back from work and perform the homam in the evening. Is there a time in the day beyond which performing a homam is not advised such as sunset, etc? Regards Veenu
Guest guest
Namaste, If you can do homam with attention and some sattwa (whatever *you* can manage), anytime is fine. As night progresses, the quality of sattwa goes down in Nature and tamas increases. If your inherent sattwa is not high enough to resist the tamas outside, you may not be able to focus the mind on the ritual well and be alert. Doing it after sunset is fine. But I suggest not waiting till late in the night and doing it as early as possible. If you do very late, there is NO harm. But simply the benefit may be les, if there is an additional layer of tamas on your consciousness due to the Nature of time. Once I witnessed a Ganapathi homam performed in the backyard of a priest's house, next to a river, late in the night. There were four really good priests there and it was one of the most pleasant Ganapathi homams I witnessed. IF you have enough sattwa to mix with the quality of gunas in Nature during night, it can generate a different kind of nice feeling. Only thing is that not much happens if there is very little sattwa in you inherently. Guest guest
How do I determine if I am having enough Sattwa? Right from my childhood, I prefferred to read through nights, and I feel I have less destraction during nights. I can focus better at night compared to day time. When I do homam during night: *) No time pressure *) No distractions *) With darkness around (I usually switch off lights or do it in the terrace), the only bright light comes from homam helps me keep focussed on Homam (particularly after I stopped referring to notes for any mantras) Only catch I see is after poornahuti, while doing japam, I loose the count and do not know if I am continuing to do japam or asleep, then suddenly realise my state and continue the japam. But, as long as I am vocal, I am not facing any problem with my focus. I normally do my homams late (Between 10 pm and 3 am). I am able to judge if I am able to do homam with attention or not. But, how do I judge if I am having any sattwa? Best regards, Vijay , " Narasimha P.V.R.
