Guest guest
Namaskaram Narasimhaji, I would like to share with you and the group my first Ganapathi homam experience. I planned to do the homam weekly on every sunday and finished two weeks so far. Here is how it went. 1st Homam : Was extremely nervous on whether I will be able to sucussfully complete my long cherished dream of performing Ganapathi homam. committed lot of mistakes in mantras ,did not say Svahaa at the right places, lighting fire etc may be because of my nervousness probably , burnt my finger while putting ahuti into the fire (surprisingly unlike most of the other burn wounds , this did not last for more than 3 hours.. usually a burn would stay for more than 2-3 days...and also i realised that i had burnt my finger only when my wife pointed it to me.. i assume this is a good sign ).. I sincerely prayed during the Homam conclusion to be forgiven for all the mistakes commited during the homam.. 2nd Homam: This time I was very relaxed and took my owm time to make sure that I dont make any mistakes.. the homam fire burnt peacefully and I did not hurt myself..I was told by my wife that the room was full of smoke which made breathing difficult and we even had couple of neighbours at our doorsteps enquiring about the smoke. But again surprisingly I never felt the slightest of discomfort even though I was nearest to the homam... So as told by many members in the group , its only practice that makes one perfect.. I am very happy that I have come across this group and under ur guidance I am sure eveybody will be benefited in sadhana through homam. Thanks and Regards, Girish Sundaram
Guest guest
Namaste Shri Girish, Well Done & Congratulations! I think you did very well. We all went through the same thing and now you will just grow in confidence. Practice makes us perfect. Don't worry about your neighbors. Consider the burns as your trophies , that is the nature of fire. I hope you enjoy your ride and I do (might I add along with the budding homam community) certainly wish you the best in your fiery endeavors. Guest guest
Namasthe Some of mine on the first experience - 1. I put the Homa Kunda (Copper) on an Aluminium foil under which I put a thick plastic sheet. Foolish of me, this did not stop the fire god from making a nice square burnt shape on the Carpet( live in USA). " Burnt my fingers " by remembering to get some bricks from Home Depot. 2. Wife got freaked out with the carpet and the smoke. Observed that if we use dry coconut, it burns nicely but the amount of Agni is low. Wooden sticks give out more smoke. Guest guest
Namaste, Some tips which you may find useful 1) Purchase a Homam Kunda with a base if available in the Indian Store near your area - there is a variety of Kunda available which has a square base at the bottom which is protected from the Kunda which has the agni. Sometimes the Indian Store will carry a specialized base of granite or other stone to act as Homam Kunda base 2) If the above is not available, try putting a regular Homam Kunda in between two bricks or tiles or you can even put a copper plate underneath the homam. 3) Under the Homam Kunda and the base or copper plate for added protection keep silver foil to catch material which drops out by mistake and to protect carpet 4) Dry coconut alone produces least smoke. Hawan Samagri and Hawan Wood are good but they will create smoke so if you plan to use the latter make sure you have adequate ventilation. If you live in a cold place and the rooms are closed then dry coconut may be best 5) With dry coconut, smoke only comes in the end when the coconut is fully burned by the Homam Agni. By experience you will know when that is about to happen and just before then you can take the Homam Kunda and place it in a place outside. I live in a place which gets lots of snow around the year so I take the Homam Kunda to the outside patio just before it extinguishes and gives out maximum smoke Regards Veenu , Padmaja Sunchu <padmaja.sunchu wrote: > > Namasthe > > Some of mine on the first experience - > > 1.
