Sri Narasimha garu,

Namaskaram.

Today while offering poornahuthi during MahaGanapathi homam i had some strange thoughts:

Suddenly I felt like the Homama fire is my Pyre and the Purnahuthi i've offered is my Head

that is burning. I'm not sure why this kind of a though cross my mind. Anyways, I could meditate well and done with my Homam.

Every day, typically after homam i would pour water on a shiva linga (mercury based) from the kalasha i used in homam and read Mrityunjaya Mantra and Chamakam. Today i felt like like applying Lord shiva with the bhasma from homam and tehn do the rest of the part. But i was not sure if i can do that or no, can you please give your thoguths on this act of mine.

Can i use the remainig water of the kalasham from Homam for offering Tarpanam?

Thanks for your valuable guidance.

Regards

KK

Namaste,

Such symbolic thinking and visualization is fine. The poornaahuti is indeed a symbol of your head/ego. When one has been purified enough, it is also possible to completely lose body awareness for a little while as the poornaahuti burns.

Let any thoughts, imagery and sounds come to you and cross your mind. Do not let your mind catch any of them and get stuck! Just observe as various thoughts - good and bad - come and leave the mind.

Water from kalasha can be used for pitri tarpana as well as abhisheka to an idol or Shiva Linga. Applying the homa bhasma (ashes) to Shiva or to oneself is also perfectly fine.
