Guest guest
Namaste, I was wondering if other people have the issue of a lot of black soot being emitted during homam--possibly through the burning of camphor. When I do a homam of about an hour's duration, I notice that a lot of black smoke and soot gets generated that covers the room and also enters into my nose. I was wondering whether this is due to something I am doing incorrectly (or possibly due to using an inferior form of camphor), or whether it is a natural effect of doing the homam. I've been doing weekly homas for a while now, but for Navaratri, I have started daily homa and the effect has been more pronounced. For the homa, I use two camphor tablets (one to light the fire, one as nirajanam offering), dried coconut halves, ghee, and havan samagri consisting of seeds, leaves and herbs. I would appreciate anyone's feedback (or suggestions on how to reduce the amount of soot). Or, perhaps the soot is an auspicious thing, and I should not be wanting to reduce it! Warm regards, and best wishes for Navaratri, Aditi
Guest guest
Namaste Aditi bahen, Few days back, i discussed about balck soot issue with one person. Funny thing is that the whole of my flat has started appearing darker by each passing month due to the generated smoke and its slow accumulation on walls, ceiling, Central AC Ducts, tiles etc... My body is also not spared. A thin coating of black soot in my Ida and pingla must have been formed which is evident by the blackish soot comes out of my nasel whenever i clean them forcefully.. My wife has started gently complaining about the clothes getting darker and now she is making sure that wardrobes are not open when i perform Homam:) > For the homa, I use two camphor tablets (one to light the fire, >one as nirajanam offering), dried coconut halves, ghee, and havan >samagri consisting of seeds, leaves and herbs. in my opinion, you are using perfect material for the homam (Inside apartment). i too use 2 camphor tablets. but in my experience, camphor's effects are not considerable. following are some suggetions: 1) whenever Ghee Aahuti is required, just put a drop. 2) Reduce the Material which you offer for the Aahuti. i mean, during every Aahuti, take lesser stuff then you regularly offer. 3) Try to arrange Coconut pieces such a way that tey do not obstruct each other much. the reason is if they are obstructed, they generate lot of smoke before they start burning. Whenever burning peace is obstructed, it'll generate good amount of smoke. More smoke will be there for some time when Agni is completely extinguished, at that time you can lift the Havan Kundam and keep it near window or outside (in Balcony or such area). Please do not disturb the remains in kundam immediately after the fire is gone because that also will generate good smoke. But after taking all those precautions also, one can not avoid smoke/soot. you may think of some arrangement for exahust. do it near window, try to fix Exhaust fan etc... > Or, perhaps the soot is an auspicious thing, and I should not be > wanting to reduce it! I consider soot as an auspicious thing and that is why i am not keen on making some arrangements. i've heared that some very advanced person takes the Havan Kunda to all the rooms to purify the atomsphere by the smoke coming out of it. Warm Regards and very happy Navaraatri Utpal , Aditi Banerjee <banerjeea wrote: > > Namaste, > > I was wondering if other people have the issue of a lot of black soot > being emitted during homam--possibly through the burning of camphor. > When I do a homam of about an hour's duration, I notice that a lot of > black smoke and soot gets generated that covers the room and also > enters into my nose.
