Namaste all,

Could you kindly help with this word in the famous Shri Vishnu Shlokam:

" Shaantakaram Bhujaga Shayanam...Vande Vishnu Bhava Bhaya Haram/Haranam?(..) " .

I have heard people saying both versions and I am confused as to which Sanskrit

word is the correct one as I am not well-versed in Sanskrit.

Please help me to clear my confusion.

Thank you.

Somanathan

Namaste,

If the " haraNam " comes there, then the chhandas (metre) is broken. The version

" vande viShNuM bhava bhaya haraM " is correct.

For the first word in the second line, there are two versions: " vishvaakaaraM "

and " vishvaadhaaram " . Both fit the metre and both are meaningful (one means " one

who has taken the shape of this universe " and the other means " basis of the

whole universe " ).

Best regards,

Narasimha
