Guest guest
Resp Guru Narsimhaji, Sire, for long have been following your lectures provided online. So for me your are my Guru (least adrishya guru) from whom I receive (derive) guidance Lately i have decided to start reciting Narayan Kavach. As usual i am in doubt as can i start such a practice with an initiation from a Guru.? Also my search through the webpages to get a copy of Naryan Kavach lead me to confusion. On one site I got a version which is completely different from an sanskrit version available on site : http://sanskritdocuments.org/doc_1_index.html. Also this Sanskrit version mentions the whole dialogue between the Rishi and the King. My confusion is for a sadhana shall i recite the Narayan Kavach as some dialogue between Rishi and King or is there a complete separate prayer as Kavach? To add to my confusion i found a paper by Robert Koch from a SJC conferece on Narayan dasa. In this he mentions about this kavach and quotes three mantras viz 1. om vi & #7779; & #7751;ave nama & #7717; 2. om namo n & #257;r & #257;ya & #7751; & #257;ya 3. om namo bhagavate v & #257;sudev & #257;ya and says that reciting them as daily sadhana will help. So i request you to please guide me as what is Narayan Kavach, how shall one put it into sadhana and if possible could share a copy of this Kavach in the form it is to be recited. sincerely Ashutosh

Guest guest
Namaste, The actual Narayana kavacha is from the verse that starts with " harirvidadhyaanmama sarva rakShaam " and till the verse that ends with " svatejasaa grasta samasta tejaaH " . The verses before it are instructions (nyaasa etc). The verses after it are results (phalasruti etc). The exact kavacha is the verses above. What Robert Koch mentioned are three very good mantras for Narayana, but they are NOT Narayana kavacha. They are used in the nyasa (placement) before reciting Narayana kavacha. With each of the three mantras, there is a way to place each letter of the mantra in a body part and create the environment for the kavacha to work optimally. You say the three mantras while focusing mind fully on different body parts while saying different letters of the mantras. However, like I said before, the nyasa done by people before mantras is just a formality and people do not know how to place a letter in a body part. I am not saying it is a secret that needs to be learnt. It is not a matter of " technique " . It is a matter of mental focus. Placement of letters in several body parts is an act of mental focus. These days, people cannot focus their mind on anything. Thus, nyasa is just a formality with no real meaning. Thus, my advice is: Do what you feel like or are taught, before and after the above verses, but make sure you read the verses I identified above. That is the real kavacha. Any kavacha works over long time. If you chant it regularly with good mental focus, it forms an invisible protective shield around your subtle body. Narayana kavacha is a very powerful mantra.
