Guest guest
When you draw the six lines with a darbha on the base of the havan kund before placing a camphor in the center and lighting it, what do yo do with the darbha? I've sometimes used it in the homa and other times thrown it away. I ask because I noticed a priest in our local tempple throw it over his left shoulder (southwest direction) when facing east. Thanks, Alok.
Guest guest
Namaste Alok, You can use a small piece of dharbha for doing so and put it in the reject bowl which is usually kept in the south east direction. Can you confirm if that priest wasn't facing North, in which case the left shoulder would be Southeast or Nirritti direction. Guest guest
Namaste Narayan, Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated! I'm certain the priest was facing East, however, I'm less certain of the direction in which he threw the darbha (which very well may have been Southeast as indicated by you). I humbly submit that Nirritti's position is Southwest. This is how I understand the 8 Dikpala's directional positions (again my knowledge is limited and clarifications from people like you who have traversed the path much longer than I are always welcome!): Indra - East Agni - Southeast Yama - South Nirritti - Southwest Varuna - West Vayu - Northwest Soma - North Ishan - Northeast Regards (and thanks again), Alok. , " naaraayana_iyer " <narayan.iyer wrote: > > Namaste Alok, > > You can use a small piece of dharbha for doing so and put it in the reject bowl which is usually kept in the south east direction. Guest guest
Namaste Alok, You are right. My mistake. Nirriti is Southwest and that was what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. Nirriti is SouthWest. Apologies. Narayan , " alokbhat " <alokbhat wrote: > > Namaste Narayan, > > Thanks for the clarification. Much appreciated! Guest guest
Namaste Narayan, Thanks for your graciousness! No apologies needed because I'm sure that's what you meant. However, just curious as to the larger significance of rejecting the dharba (or sprinkling water over the left shoulder after purification of all the items in other traditions) towards the SW direction. Many Thanks, Alok. , " naaraayana_iyer " <narayan.iyer wrote: > > Namaste Alok, > > You are right. My mistake. Nirriti is Southwest and that was what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. Guest guest
Namaste Do we have to throw the darbha once we have used it or we can use it again and again? Guest guest
Namaste, If you mean the small pieces of dharbha to draw lines in the kunda, then yes, throw them away. However, the 8 sticks of dharbha we use to decorate outside the kunda can be re-used. Regards Narayan , " dahiyajiten " <dahiyajiten wrote: > > Namaste > > Do we have to throw the darbha once we have used it or we can use it again and again? > > Thanks > Jitender > > > , " alokbhat " <alokbhat@> wrote: > > > > Namaste Narayan, > > > > Thanks for your graciousness!
