Guest guest
Namaste friends, Intellectual prowess is helpful in some matters, but it cannot make one understand or experience god. On the contrary, it can even increase pride, which makes it more difficult to experience god. Swami Vivekananda had one of the sharpest intellects in the world in the last few centuries. The following is a nice quote from him. Just something to ponder.. --------------------------- From http://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info/vivekananda/volume_9/conversations_and_in\ terviews.htm (search for " Edith Allan " ) --------------------------- SWAMI VIVEKANANDA: I am the disciple of a man who could not write his own name, and I am not worthy to undo his shoes. How often have I wished I could take my intellect and throw it into the Ganges! STUDENT: But, Swami, that is the part of you I like best. SWAMI VIVEKANANDA: That is because you are a fool, Madam — like I am. --------------------------- The thing with Vivekananda is that he was not only a sharp thinker, but was a fearless and brutally honest speaker. Though intelligence can help one understand some scriptural teachings better and help in the sadhana in the beginning, it is not so useful after a while. The qualities of surrender and humility are far more valuable than logic and analytical thinking. BTW, I noted that he said in the same series that he has to come back once more with his Master Ramakrishna. Of course, Ramakrishna also said that he would come back after 100 years along with everybody. Guest guest
Hi PVR, I disagree here. Intellect is disliked because it questions. And when the answers are not comfortable with our existing beliefs we find excuse to quite our mind. There are many ways to find God. Intellect never hinders. The same way pride also has many disguise. One can be proud of humility or one's devotion to god as well. So saying such a thing actually confuses people and set wrong beliefs in mind. Guest guest
Namaste Narasimhaji In the "Gospel of Ma Saroda", which records various conversations and incidents about her, she mentions that Thakur will be working in the astral plane for 300 years. So I was wondering how can Thakur reincarnate in 100 years time, which of these is more authetic.. -Regards Rajarshi The upsurge (of consciousness) is Bhairava - Shiva Sutra--- On Tue, 5/5/09, ray.siya1 <ray.siya1 wrote: ray.siya1 <ray.siya1 Re: Intellectual Prowess Date: Tuesday, 5 May, 2009, 2:30 PM Hi PVR,I disagree here. Guest guest
Namaste, > One can be proud of humility or one's devotion to god as well. As long as the seed of ego (sense of " I " ) has some rawness, it can give rise to the plant of self-absorption which can grow and become the tree of pride. Yes, pride can return in many forms. Ironically, as you said, one can be proud of one's apparent humility also, in which case that apparent humility is a facade. Only when the seed of ego is sufficiently fried in the heat of self-realization is the chance of it giving rise to the tree of pride ruled out completely. > Intellect is disliked because it questions. And when the answers > are not comfortable with our existing beliefs we find excuse to > quite our mind. The problem with intellect is not that it questions. The problem with it is that it has no answers to the highest questions. Logical and analytical thinking is a function of pingala/surya nadi. Emotional and intuitive thinking and beliefs are a function of ida/chandra nadi. Neither is sufficient to reveal the absolute. Various higher beings exist within the sushumna nadi in the middle. The absorption in the absolute is at the end of it. I am not telling people to become stupid or throw their intellect in ganges. I am only pointing out that regular intelligence is insufficient to realize the absolute. Guest guest
Dear Rajarshi, It was she who also recounted the episode of Ramakrishna saying he would be back in 100 years. I see no clash between the two statements. Both could be authentic. If Lord Vishnu was born on earth in an embodied form as Lord Rama, it does NOT mean Lord Narasimha (a previous incarnation) no longer works in the astral plane to bless and affect devotees. The play of divine souls is different from that of normal souls. Though all souls are identical and nondifferent from Brahman at the non-dual level, there are differences between them at the level of duality. Their capabilities and plays in the manifested universe are different. A deity or rishi may continue to exist in a high plane of consciousness in astral form and yet an amsha (part) of him/her may take an embodied form on earth.
