Guest guest
Dear PVR Sir, I had read on this before through your correspondences and have been adviced as well on this. This happened to me today...I had some offerings...especially a large chunk of wood that did not burn in the last homa that I did. Further to which I had some troubles which were emotionally disturbing. Considering your reflections on the same, I was sanguine that may be those emotional disturbances were a result of certain karmas accelerating and arriving before time. Hence i was a little scared and tensed...and what was on priority today while doing the homa was to burn those unburnt portions. Interestingly...I sat to do the homa...did my sankalpa...ahutis started and all that...when i heard this distinct voice (admonishingly)from within me (i guess) which said " your priority is not me...but burning off that piece of wood? " . Now this was something that embarassed me to the core... I said sorry...and went on to concentrate on the task at hand...though could not fully concentrate partly because i was still apprehensive of the offerings were properly burning or not and partly because I was still reeling from embarassment. This is what I wanted to share with you and also the members of the forum Regards Arunisha
Guest guest
Dear Arunisha, >which said " your priority is >not me...but burning off that piece of wood? " . This is a note worthy point you made. See, Narasimha has cautioned members about the un-burnt material offered as Aahuti. I am sure people doing Homam will be cautious about that and it is equally possible that many will be *Over cautious* about that. The danger here is that the attention is diverted to un-burnt Aahuti and NOT to the invoked deity and what motive behind that is our SELFISHNESS. Because we are scared of facing any unpleasant fruits of our surfaced karma, we even forget the lord for who we are doing the whole ritual. Major part of my Aahuti is White Til, and i see some of them burst during burning and come out of Homa Kundam. Initially i was little distracted worrying about the Un-burnt Aahuti issue but i stopped worrying about that after a couple of Homa. However it is important that one learn quickly to optimize the *type* & *quantity* of Aahuti offered depending upon the capacity of Agni. This is not difficult and within a couple of Homa, one can easily adjust to it and then distraction is removed. By the way, please note my experience, whenever i have started reciting Chandi Paath and Now Homam, My relation with some of the close colleagues are becoming tensed for no fault of mine (Honestly). My only fault was that earlier i happily accepted their misbehavior and pampered their ego in effort to reduce my `I' ness. Now i have decided not feed their ego and selfishness and changed to little bit offensive mode. I wonder (though it is very painful) if this is mother's way of removing some unwanted & harmful bondage!!! Guest guest
Namaste, Thank you for sharing. You are lucky to have a conscience that guides you correctly. Listen to it and overcome fear, shame, embarrasment etc. Emotions like fear, embarassment, pride, sadness, anger, desire etc are all natural to us. Cutting them off completely will take a long time. But one can atleast try to learn to not dwell on them for too long. Normally, when a thought like embarassment or fear or anger or pride disturbs the mental equilibrium, it will linger in the mind for a while. It will not go away quickly. Try to learn to move on, without protesting or fighting with such thoughts. Take notice of the thought and move on without over-analyzing it. Don't feel great or bad about any thought. Let the thought come and get its two seconds of space in your mind and then move on. Remember the analogy of a heckler I gave in a mail before. The distracting thoughts are like hecklers. Do not fight with them or reason with them. Notice them, ignore them and move on. When you do a sadhana, do not worry too much about the results. Having the results or some expectations on the mind is an unnecessary distraction. If you consciously (but not violently or with a sense of shame or anger or disappointment) steer you mind away from such negative thoughts during your sadhana, your sadhana will become fruitful sooner or later. Guest guest
Dear sir, Further to this...last week it was the second time that there was a stubborn log of wood that did not burn. Further to that this was the 1st time that I had to re-kindle the fire couple of times while in continuance of the homa (I have completed a dozen homas by now...and this was the 1st time that I had to re-kindle). And again the strange experience of mental trauma and a perceived problem that took a lot of my attention and mental peace. Though the problem was solved (I will perform one homa again tomorrow in which the stubborn stub would be burned)...it took the peace of my mind. Of course incessant prayers helped a little to give a semblance of order to my emotions...but nevertheless what is strange is this experience. After finishing the homa last week (in which that small stub did not burn) I was generally feeling unhappy because I was apprehensive about the entire experience of the homa - the unburnt wood...the rekindling (thrice). I wanted to remove disturbing thoughts because i realised that it could be mere psychological. What amazed me though that I found something strange in me just after the homa. I am that way pretty civil and good with etiquettes. But just after the homa there was a blankness in my mind and I GORGED at the homa fruit...(part of which I had given into the fire) with a strange greed...more carnal (that is the exact explanation that I can give). A part of my mind was looking at me strangely and saying what the heck was I doing...but I was like an animal who just gorged on that fruit...having NO RESPECT for it whatsover as if. This is shocking because I have never noticed such a behaviour in me. Well the problem at office is solved...and am much at peace...but this is a strange experience that I wish to share. with fellow members and you. And if there is any observation/advice that you wish to let me know...please do. Best wishes Arunisha--- On Wed, 2/25/09, arunisha sengupta <arunishasengupta wrote: arunisha sengupta <arunishasenguptaRe: Re: Offerings that don't burn Date: Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 11:42 PM Thank you for your advice PVR Sir--- On Wed, 2/25/09, Narasimha P.V.R.
