Veda mantra Navagraha Stothram/ Suktam

Recently I read Navagraha Stothram in Rig Veda, also mentioned as

Navagraha Suktam by few learned scholars.

The sloga starts with Aditya (Sun), then Angaragan (Mars), Sukran

(Venus), Soman (Moon), Budhan (Mercury), Brihaspati (Jupiter),

Shanaishwaran (Saturn), Rahu and Ketu.

The local temple priests while chanting sloka/mantra, changed the order

to follow the week days starting Sun.

Is it correct to change the Veda mantras to suit modern day trend?

I am interested in listening to learned scholars' views.

Namaste,

The mantras in navagraha sooktam are all from Veda, but from different

mandalas. They are not consecutive. Mantras extracted from different places

in Veda are put together in one place. So any order is fine. Different

sources may give them in different orders, but there is nothing special

about it. It is perfectly fine to follow the order of weekdays as done by

your local priests. That is in fact the standard way.

Best regards,

Narasimha
