Guest guest
Namaste Recently I saw some postings and thought I would share some information about Paramhans Yogananda's lineage. Many already know that Swamiji's ( Paramahans Yogaanda) was a direct disciple of Shri Yukteshwar Maharaj a disciple of Shri Lahiri Mahashaya. As per his book Lahiri Mahashaya was a disciple of Babaji. Babaji lived in India in physical body till 1973. He took Maha samadhi in Bombay and his Samadhi is located in Phuskar Rajasthan. Babaji is also know as Ranchod Dasji Maharaj, Paramhans of Chirtakut and some more names too. He was a Maharatrian Deshasth brahmin by birth and was born in Gwailor district in MP. Ranchod Dasji Maharaj name was given to him by his disciples in Gujarat. He may have lived for 700 plus years. He ran away from home at a very tender age and was taken up a disciple by Bala Krishna Dasji also known as Paihari Baba. Paihari baba was also very releaized, he only drank milk and so the name. Paihari Baba was Gujarati by birth but spoke in Hindi. Paihari Baba lived in Kulu for a long time, than in Pushkar, he was in Pushkar when the temple of Srinathji was moved from Mathura to Rajasthan. At that time he did a lot of seva of lord Krishna in Pushkar. After that he lived in Galtaji near jaipur in Rajasthan. Babaji also lived in Galtaji for about 12 years and he had the vision of Lord Rama in the same cave, that exists today too. It is located a few miles from Jaipur, there are a few temples there near the cave. I have visited this cave too. From Galtaji Paihari Baba moved to Revasa and than to Kashmir where he lived in a place called " Rasayani Gufa " . Paihari Baba also may have lived for 500 plus years too. While at Galtaji, the Famous Tulsidas maharaj had visited Paihari Baba and give a hand written manuscipt of Ramayana. They belong to the Ramanandi Sampradaya who has Lord Ram and Goddess Sita devi as ishta devata. Ramanandi Sampardaya came as an offshot of Ramanuja Sampradaya. Babaji or Ranchod Dasji Maharaj lived for many years in Bengal, Chitrakot and Also visited Gujarat. He also stayed in Kashmir. One of the kings of Kashmir was a devout disciple of Paihari Baba. Both Babaji and Paihari Baba were adept in " kaya kalpa " and they also had strong connection with saints located in Tibet. Paihari Baba used to remain in samadhi at a stretch for 2 to 3 years. Paihari Baba as a young brahamchari served also Swami Ramananda in Kashi. Ranchoddasji Maharaj has samadhi in Pushkar, A trust in Rajkot, Gujarat and also in Chitakut too. At these places they do charitable activities. Ranchoddasji Maharaj had many disciples but he never made anybody his sucessor. A lot of books have been written by one or two lady disciples of Ranchoddasji Maharaj and all this information written here is coming from those books. these books are avialable in his ashrams. They are written in Gujarati and Hindi Dialect. These books describe Ranchoddasji Maharaj's teachings, his view on many things, his short speeches and kind of like biography. These are very good books, they describe many aspects of spirtuality in simple laymans language. Babaji indicated that Lahiri Mahashaya was his disciple for 5 births and in this birth with kriya yoga he cleared all his impressions and was given authority to guide people and initiate in kriya yoga after relalizing his true nature. Like him he had another disciple in Bengal too known as " Din bandhu " but I do not have any information on him. Babaji did meet Shri Yuteshwar Maharaj a few times. He also indicated that many advanced saints from the Nath Sampradaya also took birth and followed the ramanandi sampradaya to experiance more bliss. My intent here is to share information and not start any controversies. If anyone needs the names of these books and also the address of ashrams, I am very happy to provide that too. If there is interest in more information than I shall try to write more about the lineage and the prominent saints of the lineage too. I also have many pictures of Ranchoddasji Maharaj, but am not sure how to load them up for you all to see. Guest guest
With all due respect (and emphasizing again that there is no disrespect intended), there are numerous claimants to the Babaji title. Some folks have concluded that he was born as " Nagraj " in Southern India around 200AD (to the extent that the author of the book that makes this claim goes so far as to also claim to have uncovered the temple where he was born 1800 years ago), few others claim Hariakhan Baba was actually the Babaji referred to in Paramahamsa Yogananda's book etc; and plenty of others make similar claims about who Babaji was/is that I will skip for the sake of brevity. Paramahamsa Yogananda unequivocally states in his " Autobiography of a Yogi " ; and I quote " That there is no historical reference to Babaji need not surprise us. The great guru has never openly appeared in any century; the misinterpreting glare of publicity has no place in his millennial plans " <...><followed by> " No limiting facts about Babaji's family or birthplace, dear to the annalist's heart, have ever been discovered. " It would be rather surprising to find out that the Divine Master chose not to reveal his history for centuries to anyone, including the Spiritual Masters of his lineage; and later on chose to " come out " , so to speak, in a public manner. Another point to note is that there is no mention by anyone of such a remarkable Divine person in any text *prior* to the revelation by Paramahamsa Yogananda in his book, followed by numerous revelations by a multitude of people till date, including folks today who claim to be " direct " disciples of the Master. That said, it hardly matters who He was in regular life, instead lets agree that we are talking about a Divine Master indeed. Also, that a lot of the highly spiritually evolved souls since then have met or received blessings/visions of the Deathless Guru is a given; after all, there is some amount of Babaji in them in the form of Divinity, no? Guest guest
Dear Dinesh I had forseen a response and may be more too, but I felt like sharing the information that I believe is correct, it is for others to judge, investigate, validate and come to any conclusion and I agree to disagree with them with love. But by sharing this information there may be others that upon investigation may agree too. I am only talking about babaji that is mentioned in Paramhans yogananda's book and lahiri mahashaya's guru. I am not claiming all these babajis are same and one. As you have indicated babaji is a very common name and you are very correct about both the instances that you have mentioned, I am familair with both. There is one gentlemen I believe in Canada having blessings of babaji that you have mentioned in the south india and he has also tried to articulate the lineage, He also does Kriya yoga classes. But Introductory Kriya Yoga like Babaji is very common form of yoga that many teachers are today teaching everywhere. The other very popular form that everybody talks about but have very little knowledge is the Kundalini Yoga, awakening of Kundalini and Chakra Bhedan. I had read his book in the past too. The other (Hariakhan) babaji that you mention he actually follows the lord shiva bhairav lineage. Infact over and above the two that you have mentioned, I have heard of one more, Swami Rama who lived in USA and has ashram in the north east, his guruji was also known as babaji and lived in the North India and Tibet. He is yet another babaji. These books that I have read and mentioned were published some years ago, yes I agree this is the way Lahiri Mahashaya's Guru decided to act, how can I articulate what he wanted. But if you go to india and visit Phuskar, he has a samadhi and you can ask anybody their or visit Rajkot Gujarat and you can read the books for yourshelf. I believe the author of the book if alive may be staying in bombay. Guest guest
Dear Karthi The books that I have mentioned are as follows: Shri Gurudev ki sannidhi me By Kumari Kumudini Paramanand Panjwani She has covered in the books from 1950 to 1973 over the six volumes In volume 1 he himself indicates the lineage. I have read vol 1 to vol 6, it appears they started publishing in 1980s. In Vol 3 on page 239 he discusses about Lahiri Mahashaya. He also indicated there that all the story described in Paramhans Yogananda's book about the surrondings at the time of Lahiri Mahashaya's initiation are not true. He also has indicated that he never physically met Yogananda, always they met in Samadhi state. These are very good books with lots of knowledge and practical things with good scientific explanation of many aspects of vedas, yoga, etc. One can get this books at following places 1) Shri Sadguru Sadan Trust Ashram Kuvadvaa Road Rajkot, Gujarat, India 360003 2) Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust Mafatlal house Back bay reclamation Bombay 400020 3) Shri Ramdham Trust Phuskar, Rajasthan 4) Shri Sadguru Seva Sangh Trust Janki Kund Chitrakut, UP, India 210204 Over and above this there are other books too like " Sudha Sarita " , " Manav Drasti " etc. Hope this clarifies your query Best Regards Mitesh , sivasankara narayanan <seshasiva wrote: > > Hi Mitesh, > > Would you please share the source of the information that you have provided?. thank you > > Regards > Karthi > > --- On Sat, 10/4/08, m540i98 <m540i98 wrote: > > m540i98 <m540i98 > Paramhans Yogananda's Lineage > > Saturday, October 4, 2008, 2:26 AM Namaste > > Recently I saw some postings and thought I would share some > information about Paramhans Yogananda's lineage. > > Many already know that Swamiji's ( Paramahans Yogaanda) was a direct > disciple of Shri Yukteshwar Maharaj a disciple of Shri Lahiri > Mahashaya. > > As per his book Lahiri Mahashaya was a disciple of Babaji. > Babaji lived in India in physical body till 1973. Guest guest
Dear Mitesh, Ranchod dasji mahaaj and Babaji are two different entities. I have met Ranchhod dasji maharaj. Guru of Swami Ram of Hrdware was known as Bengali Baba. A well known saint. Leanage describe here is of Kriya Yoga. Mahvtar Babaji gave diksha to Lahiri mahashay. Shri Yukteshwar giri is disiple of Lahiri Mahashay. Yoga nanada is shisya of Yukteshwar giri. Guest guest
Hello Dilip Wow you have meet him? very good, if you can get access to these books please read them, these are good books. I sincerely encourage you and than come back with more information. He gave different types of initiations based on the state of sadhaka. he gave kriya yoga to very few discples explicitly. He mostly gave rama mantra and then explained how to do prananyams. Only one that I read about was a guy name jhadavjibhai in rajkot, who did kriya yoga and was very advanced sadhaka. He is the guru of all of my family members on my fathers side, except for me and some of my younger siblings. He used to visit our home too, however nobody in my home knew about this too. Guest guest
Namaskar Mitesh,I have a link with rajkot and have heard about Shri Ranchhoddasji but nobody in Rajkot have mentioned his age being 100 + Years! He was much admired for running the Charity activities during famine around 1970,especially saving Cows and cattle from starvation. In my very young age I was sometimes confusing Acharya Vinoba Bhave and Sri ranchhoddasji Bapu as they had similar style of covering heads and both were bespectacled ....Though I stayed at Rajkot from birth to 22 years of age I never had his Darshan,in person.Strange are the ways of Ishwara !! Pranams to the divine in us !Amit --- On Sat, 10/4/08, m540i98 <m540i98 wrote:m540i98 <m540i98 Re: Paramhans Yogananda's Lineage Date: Saturday, October 4, 2008, 10:49 AMHello DilipWow you have meet him? very good, if you can get access to these booksplease read them, these are good books.
