Im not sure about the actual ritual you are talking about but there is no harm in doing a puja for your grandfather. Even better, do a Puja/Yagya for all your Pitris. That way, even if your grandfathers spirit is wandering or unhappy for some reason, the other Pitris will come to help him. The Pitris are our ancestors, & some angels who live in the astral world, & help us if we ask them in the right way. The best way is to do a Yagya- even a simple Gayatri mantra for a fixed number will do. If your grandfathers spirit is wandering, they will help him cross. If he is unhappy for some reason, the good energies of the Yagya will burn away his bad Karma. Even if your grandfather is happy in next life, the good energies will help other ancestors is trouble, & they will bless you. with luv, shantnu
Guest guest
Hari Om! I have a doubt here. To-day being a 'Mahalaya Amavasya', there is an added significance to the question of doing pitru karma. We believe that our pitru karma will satisfy the needs of our pitrus as they are in the astral bodies. But, kindly enlighten me how this will benefit them, if they had already taken another birth? If the offering made to the pitrus in such rites will not reach them once they take another birth, then what is the point in doing it endlessly? ulaganathan p ________________________________ shanracer <no_reply > @ s..com, semiliterates <no_reply@.. .> wrote: > > My paternal grandfather lived a life of a recluse and did not semiliteratesji, Sorry for taking so long to reply! Even if our pitru have taken birth, it might be in some lower form, and our offerings will help them move on. Lower form maybe lower than human, or even human in poor conditions. No Karma/action ever goes waste- our offerings always reach the Pitrus, though they may not reach the person being offered to. Remember, the karma/desires of previous 7 generations affects us, so many of our ancestors may need that offering. And they(or God) always blesses us for our selfless action, & we do get the good energies of that. So Pujas for pitris help us as much as it helps them. I know people talk about greedy prietss etc, but in Kaliyug, when hardly anyone is satvic, its better to err on side of safety & do puja for pitris, even if they might not need it. luv, Shantnu
Guest guest
OMNAMONARAYANAYA Dear Ulaganathanji , I am not an authority on such issues. Other senior members will be able to explain it better. But I heard Sriman Tridandi Srimannaarayana Jeeyangar of Pedamutthevi say that " In the birth taken by Atman, Pitru karyam done by off springs will ensure total satiety and happiness in that birth. For example if the birth is that of a dog , the dog will be a dear pet dog living comfortably without any want. This continues as long as Karma dictates " More feedback from seniors ~SWAMY http://gjnanaswarup.spaces.live.com/blog/ --- On Fri, 9/18/09, ulaganathan p <apunathan wrote: ulaganathan p <apunathan Re: Re: PLEASE Clarify Friday, September 18, 2009, 1:13 AM Hari Om! Guest guest
My mother passed away suddenly when I was living in a middle eastern country.Priests were not available there. There are no hindu temples as idol worship is not allowed. My sister in India did the rituals and pooja as ordained.. Because of certain cicumstances, I could not go to India then. I felt I had to do something. My mother was a diabetic for the last nine years of her life and could not eat sweets though she craved for them. So I bought sweets, made packets and distributed them to the poor labourers there.I lit a lamp at my alter and read passages from Gita.I do not know how to perform formal poojas. It is going to be three years since then.I have come back in India now. Should I do some poojas now? Of all the people in my mother's life she was the closest to me. Please advise. Do a small puja in your house, maybe 108 mala Gayatri mantra with yagya. Then you can feed the poor, make some donations in your mothers name. She will bless you whereever she is, & it will generate great karma for your and your family. luv, Shantnu
