Dear shanracer, senthil, udai and other sadhakas... What role has our diet in

our sadhna.

Is it a must to leave non-veg food etc. before doing sadhna.....

Namste Aumji,

Nice to see you are posting regularly now. :)

Diet is a very contentious issue, with very strong opinions. There are some

people who say you have to be vegetarian, else you are doomed. In the West, this

is mixed with the animal rights movement. But other than some Hindus, almost no

one is veg- including the Buddhists, Chinese Taoists, as well as others. So that

means, other than Hindus, no one will get Moksha?

I personally dont think it is necessary to be vegetarian. Even in India, only

the path of Yoga proper(which includes Raj & Hatha Yoga) insists on vegetarian

diet.

Veg diet is needed, as Raj Yoga tries to control the mind, & meat, alcohol &

other intoxicants add Tamoguna( & hence negativity) to the mind. But if one is

following some other path, like Bhakti(as practiced by Christians/Muslims),

Buddhist meditation which tries to negate mind, then vegetarianism may not be

needed.

Even in Yoga, veg diet is only needed at advanced state.

Vegetarianism is good to have, but not absolutely required for Sadhna. It

depends on what path we are following, & how far on it we are

Dear Shan ji,

All Paths work on the Mind (directly/indirectly), which in its mundane

form is Sluggish or Elusive or BOTH :-)

Referring to your last line, you said, " It depends on what path we are

following, & how far on it we are " .

I would prefer to believe that - It really DOES NOT depend on what path

we are following, but it ONLY depends on " how far on it we are " .

" Samarath Ko Nahi Dosh Gosai " ...once a Sadhak becomes Samarath

(Capable...in establishing oneself into a higher consciusness

irrespective of prevailing grosser conditions, of Mind & Body), the

Sadhak follows one's own way in tune with the existential and natural

laws.

Until then, an outer discipline might be inevitably mandatory...and

Vegetarianism is just one of its traits.

Regards,

Anupam

Aumji,

Good health to you.

While discussion with my master, he suggested one deceple not to change the diet

style.

The deceple was non vegeterian. Master told him that , in improved meditation it

will automatically disliked and will be left.Because killing live animals will

not be accepted at that time.

But scientifically human body is made for veg foods and one has to respect

it.Certain times and places where veg food is not available , one can choose to

eat non veg food, because living is more important that the way of living.

When a sadhak attains certain level at which his senses become more and more

sensitive, he can sense/hear/feel/see the positive and negative energy

reflecting around him. he can smell the pain of an animal and definitely wont

eat the non veg food.

As shanji said, in case of budhdhist, they negate the world and hence the

negation of living animals wont harm them and their astral body. Therefore there

is no disturbance in their sadhana.

Truly speaking when some one is in progress, he becomes sympathetic and

blissfull in nature. He can not destroy bliss of other live animals/humans etc..

The plants/fruits have life but comparatively less moving.

When a Sadhak becomes realised he know what has to be destroyeed and what to

not. Hence again for him, a veg and non makes no difference.

I think a true sadhak should follow his inner feellings and masters advice for

diet. Also an active kundlini demands certain food, in way of an urge to eat,

might it be a veg or non veg. She know what to have and what not.

Yes I do agree with you people. Example of Paramhansa and Vivekananda is worth,

as they both were non veg

Recently I met Jaggi Vasudev, who is also world guru, and he was non-veg. I

asked him the same question, but he didnt reply properly

That is true Udayji. The real Masters can directly take their Prana from the

air/Sun, so they had no need to harm others, but till we reach that level, we

have to eat others. The best we can do is, cause as little pain to other

creatures as possible.

Aumji, another advantage of meat is- it keeps us grounded. The most Sattwic food

is fruit, as it grows in air(on top of trees), so it is as far from Earth as

possible. So truly speaking, vegetables that grow in Earth like potatoes are not

as Sattwic. Some people think eating garlic is like eating meat.

But there is a problem with this-we cannot live on Satoguna alone. I read of a

Westerner, who had a really advanced Guru who only lived on fruit. The

Westerner, who was an expert in Hatha Yoga, & hence his own body, also started

this. He would grow his own organic fruit, & only eat that.

Within few months, he almost went crazy. He could hear the smallest things, like

bees flying, & the noise in the city drove him crazy. The bright electric lights

hurt his eyes. He became so Sattwic he could no longer live in society! Thats

when his Guru contacted him telepathically, & told him to start eating normal

food. He was told to eat grounding food, that grows in Earth, like wheat,

potatoes etc, if he didnt want to eat meat.

So our food has to be according to our lifestyle, & our job in society.

Some people have said that meat has negative energy- but is vegetarian food any

better? The food is grown in artificial ways, the farmers kill off small

creatures that live on land to protect their crops, then greedy farmers,

middlemen, commodity traders, each manipulate the price & quality of food(the

2nd is more common in India). This food is artifically grown- like I was reading

fruits & vegetables, especially in west, are artifically ripened, which is why

they taste bland. On a physical level, the food may contain all the

proteins/vitamins etc, but on a spiritual level, it is corrupted food. Then we

have GM food, correctly called Frankenstien food.

As such, there is no gurantee that vegetarian food will give us good energies.

Since one of the reason we avoid meat is to avoid negative energies, the

attraction to veg food becomes weak.

luv,

shantnu
