Maya is Adi Shakti herself. But then, what is Adi Shakti? Adi Shakti, the original power, is the power of Awareness of Param Shiva, the formless God, that allows him to manifest & play with the world. When this force identifies with a limited body/mind, it is called Maya. When she identifies with the whole Universe, she is Adi Shakti. In a way, both these forces are inside us. We have chosen, or rather Shakti has chosen through us, to identify with this limted body, which is why she appears as Maya to us. Maya does not bind us- it is our decision, taken at a very deep, sub concious level, to exist in the world, that binds us. We are free to let go of this attachment any time! but the problem is, it is not our mind/ego, but our deep inner self that must make this decision. The best way to get out of Mayas clutch, is to ask her to show her True form. Maya then becomes Adi Shakti, also called Kundalni Shakti, or Chit Shakti, the Power of Conciousness. She can appear to us in any form, including our chosen Ishta Devta, but her natural form is one of the 10 Great Goddesses of Tantra, called the Das Mahavidyas. No one can truly understand Maya/Adi Shakti, except for perhaps Param Shiva! luv, Shantnu

Guest guest
ji, Maya is manifestation of supreme power brahma.or of universal consiouness. The range of maya starts from pure ego to the heaviest part of the universe.. Adi shakti herself is maya and I dont think there is any difference. Roll of maya is very much important in material world.Without adi shakti (maya) no world is possible.she is mother of material world. Hence she is " she ' power. Maya,s instinct is rise and fall, birth and death, up and down while shiva (brahman) roll is universally stable , no rise and no fall, no birth and no death. When its mayas play, its everchanging but in shivas play its everlasting. There is no clutch of maya as such. One has to focus the centre of maya and has to get out of it. Within maya shiva is present and within shiva , maya is . Both are two sides of a coin. shiva and shakti. The coin is incomplete without one is presnt. --- On Wed, 1/7/09, Aum <beirut_ka_baba wrote: Aum <beirut_ka_baba What is Maya ...?? Since it is Shaktis game, it is Shakti herself who gets entangled in Maya, which she also creates, then she herself, as Adi Shakti, frees the entangled soul. Maya could be said to be an independent force that exists in the Universe- but it is our choice to view the world as Maya or Adi shakti. love, Shantnu
