Why we do Abhishekam of Sivalingam with milk and water and that too on a Monday.

Lord shiva is better known as adiguru ( the first guru). and a

methodical yogi. The methods of lord shiva includes tantra , dhyana,

kundlini, japa ,all focussed more on philosophical base.

His dance is Tandava (violent) .its rudra (teriffic). Its power of kundlini..

Kundlini produces large amount of heat and the body needs coolant fluid thats is

why ganga and moon are there. the snakes are indication of kundlini.

When the kundlini raises upward in the body, the acid fumes in the body may also

come up sometimes due to the upward vacum forces cretaed in the body.Hence the

throat become blue because of continuos practice .Therefore a yogi always has

low intec to avoide such happenings. The food is controlled always

The worshiper of shiva may not like what I said, but this is my opinioun, I am

not insisting  upon what i realise and make statement.

Since lord shiva is worshipped in statue form, all the requsites are needed to

perform on the statue based on likes and dislikes of lord shiva. hence the milk,

water etc .being moon its monday. Bilva has also cooling effect. they are all so

scientifically arranged based on the nature of god.A human who understand them

might follow the system for his spiritual growth.

Dear jayaji,

Shri gopal ji has given a perfect and beautiful reply to your question. It is

true that Abhishekam of Shivalinga with a mixture of raw milk and water on a

Monday has an important connection with Moon.

After ocean churning, when the great poison came out and it started

burning the universe, Lord shiva gulped that poison to save the universe, but

held it in throat and hence called Neelkanthh.

Moon god then sit on his head to give him coolness from the effects of

poison. As per Ayurveda too mixture of raw milk and water has a cooling effect

on the body.

Hence by offering this cold mixture, we symbolically give solace to Shiva from

the heat of poison, and request him to cool our being from heat of bad karma.

Aum
