Types of Maya

Namaste,

 

Some people think that they will do some SAdhna to escape Maya, & everything

will be ok. But just escaping from Maya isnt enough. There are different types

of Maya.

 

The lowest is Maya, which limits us to the 5 elements, Chakras. One has to

escape the 5 elements, which means becoming a master of the master of the

physicla world, which happens when all the chakras are open, & gives

supernatural powers to control all elements-earth, water, fire,air & ether.

Until one can do this, one is still under Mayas control.

 

But even the person who goes above this, is still not free. Many people have

risen above Maya, & realised that everything is made from Pure conciousness.

They can create new bodies, new worlds with just their mind. However, even they

are not free of Maya. They come under Mahamaya. This is especially philosophies

that deny a Higher Conciousness(God) like Jainism, Buddhism. Such souls think

they are free, but even they are controlled by Mahamaya,who uses them to run the

world. Mahamaya also controls some lower level Gods.

 

Even beyond both these is Yoga Maya- the highest Shakti in the world. In some

ways, Yoga Maya is Adi Shakti, the preimeval force. She puts even Narayan, the

Cosmic Conciousness, to sleep, such is her power! Yoga Maya controls both Maya &

Mahamaya- this means she can control both the humans & Gods, & keep each of them

playing, all the while both of them think they are independent. Even the Higher

level Gods like Brahma-Vishnu-Rudra are under her control, but in their case,

they willingly let themselves be controlled, as they too want the Universe to

run. Thats the only difference between Higher & lower Gods- the lower ones

think they are independent, while the Higher ones know they are a part of

something bigger.

 

What Yoga Maya is, or what is her purpose, no one knows, except perhaps Param

Shiva, but He is so far away from us, that we can never even hope to imagine

him. The best we can do is, reach Adi Shaktis level, so Yog Maya can show us why

the Universe is.

 

As you can see, understanding the Universe is more than just opening Chakras,

raising Kundalni, gettng Brahm Gyan, although these are necessary steps. But the

person who has done all this may still not reach the final stage if Yoga Maya

isnt happy with him- he will be stuck under Mahamaya, but think he is

independent.

 

The only way around this is to have lots of humility, & the knowledge we can

never truly understand the world. Thats why devotion, or Bhakti, is so

important. But this is an active, intelligent Bhakti, not a Tamasic " We have

surrendered to God, now He will do everything " type of Bhakti.
