Jitendarji, Shiv means the peaceful unmoving, calm. It shows that even in the

most turbulent of times, even in times of great pain or misery, there is

something in us that is unmoving, that is always calm & joyful. Joy is

anothermeaning of Shiv, as calmness by itself can be dull, & hence useless(as it

becomes Tamasic).

Aumji is feeling slightly better now- he is no longer in crippling pain that had

caused him to become bedridden, but he is also not fully recovered, as he still

cant walk around. But his spirits are high, & he assigns one of the reasons for

his quick recovery to the blessings of his friends, especially the ones in this

group. So he sends his love to everyone.

With love & respect,

Shantnu

A related question is: What does Shiv Linga mean? We have discussed that several

times, but I will still give a quick reply in case some new members didnt know:

The Shiv Linga is our Causal body, made of Wisdom & Bliss. The Causal body is

our closest link to Shiva(the pure Spirit), which is why we worship it, as we

cannot directly worship the formless Spirit.

It does not mean Phallus or penis, as I ave seen many people, even Hindus,

believe.

with love,

Shantnu

First of all, great news that Aumji is recovering. We miss his contributions.

Shiva also means auspicious. The Shiva sahasranamam gives all the meanings of

the name.

The Sivalingam also represents an egg/seed - the potential within us.

Thanks Shantanu, there is a broad misconception that the Sivalingam is phallic.

Why people believe such a trivial interpretation I cannot say. Siva (ie the

concept of God as Siva) is the support for the entire universe. If we think of

ourselves, as immeasurably-tiny creatures, on a speck of dust, circling a minor

star (one among billion in our galaxy) among billions of galaxies, we realize

how Absurd that is.
